Opmerkingen: Seemless, easy to use, accurate take-offs without the bulk and effort required from other similar products.

Pluspunten:

Estimating is made super simple. The Edge is very intuitive, and easy to modify. Meaning we can modify our databases to match our current costs and then seamlessly estimate job costs. The learning curve for the edge is much less than other similar products. Our estimators were able to immediately hit the ground running with take offs.

Minpunten:

Occasionally we've encountered crashes and lost estimates. These are rare in our current version, but they do still occasionally happen.

Easy to use, and give accurate estimates

Opmerkingen: It is easy to use if you do a lot of estimates. By using this program we no longer skip vital materials or labor in our estimates.

Pluspunten:

Ease of use, ability to customize jobs, no longer have to print blueprints. They have improved it so you can just change prices as needed.

Minpunten:

It can get very involved if you don't use it on a regular basis. However there are tutorials on their website to help you through the process, and support is always there to help.

There are better programs out there

Opmerkingen: Not much. I can print out reports for the field, but they just throw them to the side.

Pluspunten:

Takeoffs are fairly simple once you get past the semi-cumbersome training. I like the ease of adjusting labor rates, and that once conditions are built they remain.

Minpunten:

Editing the database is an awful task, and even when you think you have a handle on it....you don't. Formulas are damn near impossible to read unless you have a print out of what each piece of a formula means. In fairness, it is built into the program, but making one from scratch on your own is not worth the time it would take to learn it all. Setting up reports to reflect exactly what you want is extremely difficult. If you did it every single day and learned all of the ins and outs of how to set reports up that's one thing, but this is one of the most unfriendly aspects of the Edge. There are conditions that are never used and are unable to be deleted (hard to count how many times I've selected the wrong conditions), not everything saves in the database (FRP setup), and let's not forget that the amount of updates that there have been; more than Apple, and that's saying something! I would be more apt to continue using a program like this in the future with some major overhauls on some areas, specifically ACT takeoffs; I can't click and drag for a square footage without it crashing the system. I have brought this to the attention of the developers/programmers and it is still not fixed. Also, is there a 3D rendering coming?

Time is Money.

Opmerkingen: I am a huge fan of the EDGE, I have been given the great opportunity to have this tool available to me at my job. I have not used other estimating software besides EXCEL spreadsheet calculators so I cannot compare it to other software, But I have researched other estimating software and their features do not seem to match what the EDGE can offer.

Pluspunten:

The best feature I like is the ability to copy a job or conditions and use them on a new job. once you figure out how to navigate much of the tools on the EDGE, you can create a new job with similar conditions to a previous job and whip out the bid faster than starting from scratch. More bids completed in less time is a Good Thing!

Minpunten:

I have no cons, at first when we switched from version 10 to 12 it seemed unnecessary as we were so used to the Version 10. After using it for a while there is actually not much difference. The Estimating EDGE Technical support is excellent at helping customers solve issues when you find yourself stuck on something with the software, usually it is something very simple.

Great Product

Opmerkingen: I have been using The Edge since the old blue screen version. It is easy to use and you can customize it to work how you want it.

The Edge Estimating

Opmerkingen: The Edge is the easiest and most accurate estimating software I have used. It is extremely intuitive. I like how quickly we can turn out accurate and competitive bids on projects we are pursuing.

Opmerkingen: Overall, The Edge is an excellent tool for creating proposals quickly and accurately. The newest versions will close all the feature gaps that customer's have wanted for years.

Pluspunten:

The Edge will take off and price the estimate simultaneously with some minor tweaking on the front end.

Minpunten:

The user interface and "DOS operating" feel creates a cumbersome feel.

Great for beginners

Pluspunten:

I like how it is an all in one software. I was relatively new to construction and it allowed e to be very productive with limited knowledge.

Minpunten:

I was missing simple commands, such as delete buttons and ability to pan. Easy to forget how to use features that you don't use often because of the complicated commands involved.

Not just for estimating!

Opmerkingen: Overall The Edge has helped us bid projects faster and more accurately, as well as collaborate on estimates from multiple locations.

Pluspunten:

The reports we're able to generate to assist our operations team with the handover process after a project is awarded have been outstanding. The accuracy of our estimating has improved dramatically since getting everyone on board with the Edge.

Minpunten:

Can be cumbersome to operate at first. Not a really clear help section or glossary of terms.

The Edge - Not There Yet

Opmerkingen: Overall experience is very good. Like the program a lot and it fits our company well enough for the estimating team.

Pluspunten:

The versatility of creating different conditions. The ability to quickly add conditions. The accuracy of the calculations.

Minpunten:

Not able to stack hyper links from page to page. Need to track details from Elevations back to enlarged details. Sometimes this will be three to four pages back into the documents. Do not have the ability to add notes, lines, clouds, bubbles, etc... to the take-off page. Can only add notes in one line and not a paragraph type setting. Need better options in printing out take-off, annotations come out too large and it does not print out correctly on 11x17 size paper. Need to utilize the project management side of construction as well.

Austin Rackley Roofing Review

Opmerkingen: We have been able to bid many more projects with the edge, with less estimators. To go along with that, estimates have become much more accurate and fool-proof.

Pluspunten:

I like mostly the time that it saves while estimating compared to by hand takeoffs and also the accuracy it allows if things are set up properly. I like the ability to fully customize everything from estimating templates to the reports and so much more.

Minpunten:

There are several features that have been taken out in version 12 that we really liked as a company. Also there are several smaller bugs in the newer version that hopefully shouldn’t be too difficult to work out.

Long Time User

Opmerkingen: I think the product is great. would love to see the changes forthcoming with Version 12. I think there are a few of items that would only make the program only that much better.

Pluspunten:

The fact it walks you through each assembly and gives you the areas you need to focus on. unlike with Qbid you have to know each part and peace before building the assembly.

Minpunten:

Some of the Onscreen features of Qbid would make the edge that much better. like the ability to just select a portion of a wall assembly in stead of the entire wall. or having to break it up into small parts.

Great product overall

Opmerkingen: I have been using the edge software for 12 years now and so far it has been the best and well rounded system so far. The cost seems to be getting a little high compared to other programs with similar functions. I would like to see the system receive a few upgrades to justify the cost. Hopefully this will include a production control module for the project management side.

Pluspunten:

The accuracy of the system, the simplicity and universal use of the conditions.

Minpunten:

Doesn't have enough features to assist with the project management side. Needs more control options for uploaded drawings. would really like to see a production control feature for managing projects.

Edge Estimating 10.8

Opmerkingen: With all the little quirks the Edge has, it is still a fairly versatile program. I came from PlanSwift 11 and even though it was a little easier to do take-offs, the database building was much simpler with the Edge (for the most part). Overall 8/10.

Pluspunten:

Custom Database Building. Ease of Take-off estimating.

Minpunten:

The small bugs (Crashes, install issues, etc) Not Cloud Based, yet. No tutorial on how to make custom 'reports'.

Best in class

Opmerkingen: Have been an Edge user for many years and have experienced the ease and integration of every upgrade, this program consistently evolves around the end user. Having more than 45 years estimating experience in the roofing industry, The Edge has mastered just about all area's of the roof estimating experience and has put it into an fully capable estimating system that is quite easy to use and far more efficient than most other roof estimating programs out there.

Software manual is confusing to work with since all aspects of the edge are in the one Manual. I think each division should be separated into multiple manuals

Estimating made easy

Opmerkingen: The Edge is a completely comprehensive method of estimating construction projects. The best part about the program is the user has the power to manipulate the input in order to meet his needs. The Edge has been a terrific tool which has allowed for a full breakdown of our operations from estimating all the way to evaluation of job cost versus expected O + P. The friendly staff at the Edge in Boynton Beach, Florida have been great to work with from the time I was in Florida for the introductory stages to the customer service aspect now. It's a terrific program and I would highly recommend it.

Pluspunten:

The overall functionality of the software is seamless. It's very easy to set things up and estimate a project using the Edge in a matter of moments. Once the preliminary stages of learning the ins and outs of the program is complete, it makes taking off a project very easy.

Minpunten:

It can be clunky at times when revisions to estimates are necessary.

Edge wish list - INTUMESCENT Calcs/Designs/Pricing

Pluspunten:

Time efficiency. Customization. Been using it since the late 1990's

Minpunten:

Don't want to update database because I don't want to lose the UL tests that I created in my existing old data base. Complications of trying to set up Edge for all of the different INTUMESCENT fireproofing manufacturers and UL's. I am forced to do intumescent calcs & pricing outside of the Edge. Messages saying that the system couldn't save job. Having to open/close the program until the edge jobs list pulls up.

Commercial Roofing

Opmerkingen: My experience has been great. I have been down to Boynton Beach for training and have my head fully wrapped around the software to the most of my ability. I think if you provided a "Light" version at a lesser price point that acted as just a material take-off only module and left out reports, recaps, etc. it would be great for many.

Pluspunten:

I think the material take-off ability and creating, saving, and reusing conditions is excellent. I also like the ability, although it is rather difficult, to generate reports based off of these take-offs.

Minpunten:

I really only use this software for material take-offs and generating condition and pricing fax reports. As far as inputting pricing of materials, estimating labor, and getting a project price with the Recap, these are all very inefficient and do not work for us. I still feel more comfortable using my take-off information and dumping it into our estimating spread sheets. How we mark up and price our projects and what we need to include and calculate just cant be done on the recap.

Opmerkingen: As a college student who was unfamiliar with this program before starting my job, it was very easy to become comfortable navigating and using The EDGE. As I became more familiar in my field, as well as The EDGE I was really exposed as to what features were available. It was very simple to tailor The EDGE to do the lion's share of the work for me. Once I knew where to begin, with only a few clicks I could have an entire estimate almost finished. With a few more adjustments to fit what I am working on The EDGE has helped me complete a full estimate in a fraction of the time. Not only that but it also allows me to feel completely confident in my bid knowing it is extremely accurate. The EDGE is the most efficient and accurate way to take of an estimate.

Easy to learn, and use. Very accurate, and easy to program for future use. Great customer service!

Opmerkingen: We have been using the The for 15+ years. Deciding if we are wanting to stay with it or more to a competitor.

The ability to have cost of material and labor and other cost type included in the take off.

Minpunten:

It can not handle one company account with multiple offices (each office having its own cost for for material)

Increased Productivity with Accuracy

Opmerkingen: It has allowed us to increase our number of estimates with an accuracy in material quantities and cost. It is so easy to maneuver from start to takeoff to review.

Pluspunten:

The program may look complex, but it is easily modified to fit the individual need of your company. Not only has it increased the way I estimate, it's transformed how I see each and every project. Time and money to print plans and hand calculate quantities are now spent on project management.

Minpunten:

In todays fast paced and busy construction market, finding time to make full use of its many potentials has been difficult.

Senior Estimator

Opmerkingen: The edge helps with placing orders for materials, reviewing previous bids and easy access to modify or amend past bids.

Pluspunten:

I like the functionality how it incorporates all the details in price and labor it saves trees since take offs are done electronically

Minpunten:

I can not say specifically. I do know that you need to really attend training to fully understand all of The Edge's capabilities and functionalities.

Stuck with it

Opmerkingen: Been using it for 20+ years starting with the DOS version in the late 90s.

Pluspunten:

It is the industry standard for commercial roofing. And I have been using it for 20 years so I'm familiar with how to use it.

Minpunten:

Unintuitive. GUI is hard to look at. Lacks an undo feature and other basic windows features like full drag and drop features. Unable to open multiple jobs at the same time and drag and drop between them. Version 12 feels like its still in beta testing. Database structure is confusing. Hard to tell the columns apart on the pricing and labor screens. Not customizable enough.
