Reviews over XMind
Xmind, is an incredible cross-platform tool to manage mind maps.
Opmerkingen: Its way of managing the flow of generating and documenting an idea is very flexible, in addition to the fact that it's really easy to share the results with the rest of the organization; through the pitch mode, to mention one of the most striking, it is possible to adopt creatively this platform within the organization.
Pluspunten:
One of the most outstanding aspects is that this multiplatform really guides the work team in the organization to achieve clarity in the generation of an idea for a service or a product and, since normally, when we work on something new, we have a lot of information dispersed, and creating mind maps in Xmind helps us simplify and focus on the information we really need to reach a consensus.
Minpunten:
Xmind has been concerned with allowing collaborative work regardless of the operating system or platform used by our organization, in addition to integrating the most important file managers, so this will facilitate adoption in the company, and the more integrations are achieved, the more flexible and easier it will be to work without obstacles.
Powerful visualization tool to organize your ideas
Opmerkingen: I loved using XMind to create mind maps due to its simplicity, clean UI and export functionality. Its free version is great for individual use, even though it has limited features available. If you need a tool to organize your ideas and visualize them in a structured way, then XMind is a wonderful option.
Pluspunten:
XMind is a great visualization tool that allows you to create beautiful mind maps. I have used XMind for over an year to create flow diagrams, charts, mind maps, hierarchies, project timelines etc. You can use prebuilt templates and add icons, images, comments using drag and drop functionality. You can easily share and export your file in any desired format like HTML, .pdf, .txt, .xls, .rtf etc. I absolutely love the Presentation mode.
Minpunten:
XMind is not flexible when it comes to arrangement of the elements of any diagram. Also, you will face some issues in performance (i.e. significant lag), if the size of your mind map/diagram increases beyond a certain limit. Though XMind is a fairly simple tool to learn but it still needs some time to get used to the menu icons and its features.
One step forward two steps back.
Opmerkingen: I used to love using this program to help me come up with ideas and keep track of various strategic subjects in an easy to communicate way. They have since made the things they were best progressively worst to the point where I find the majority of designs distracting from a business presentation standpoint.
Pluspunten:
I have really come to enjoy the ability to present using the new Xmind. I find a lot of the new features have been useful: import/export, presentation, etc.
Minpunten:
The new SaaS model is clunky compared to the last version I used (Xmind 6). Previously, if I wanted to make business presentations the process was streamlined and easy for me. Today, I get bombarded with useless options that are irrelevant to making a professional mind map presentation. What used to take me seconds to do in terms of setup now takes me minutes. Quality has really dropped.
The best mind mapper- XMind
Opmerkingen: My overall experience with XMind is awesome and I am still using it for creating mind maps for my career needs.
Pluspunten:
XMind is one of the best mind mapping software that I have used. The following are the features I like the most. 1. Easy to use: XMind is displaying inserting options on the top of the window, and easy to add topics, subtopics and relationships. 2. Many formatting options are available even in the free version. 3. It is possible to add screenshots, images, summaries, boundaries, attachments, etc. in the mind map. 4. Easy zoom in and zoom out. 5. Larger space to create the mind map 6. It is possible to add audio notes.
Minpunten:
When formatting a topic or subtopic, ensure consistent formatting across all items at the same level. For example, if one subtopic is bolded, all other subtopics under the same topic should automatically be bolded as well.
Eerder overwogen alternatieven:
Great for cross-platform mindmapping. Otherwise, flawed.
Opmerkingen: Xmind is gorgeous, relatively intuitive, and produces great results. If it existed in a vacuum I'd say it's a no-brainer to recommend. However, it's operating in a world of much cheaper, more polished alternatives, with much better data control. So it's hard to recommend.
Pluspunten:
Unlike other tools that I've tested, and ultimately chosen over Xmind, Xmind's biggest strength is in its cross platform support. This is great for people and teams who work across Mac, Windows, Android, and iOS devices.
Minpunten:
Xmind really falls behind other vendors when it comes to data control; it has relatively weak support for file formats and doesn't appear to support OPML or Markdown export which is crucial for using mind maps as part of a sophisticated document authoring workflow.
Great package for mind-mapping and planning your work
Opmerkingen: I use it for mind-mapping my articles, presentations, and books. It's a powerful simple tool for that. And can form the basis of a great Prezi layout if you use the clip art. Mostly I like that it's a fast way for me to scope and think about an article or book. I typically use the 4MAT model (as originally developed by Bernice McCarthy in 1980) which creates a 4 way mind-map, starting with WHY in the top right quadrant then WHAT in the lower right, HOW in the lower left and continuing clockwise to create a branch about IF? in the top left quadrant. The WHY is all about "Why should people read/know/care about this?", then WHAT is it that I want them to know/do/feel, and HOW do they do this, then finally the IF? is all about What if? What if I (the reader) do this and it works or doesn't work? What if the next step is ... ? What if it everyone knew/did/felt this? 'What if?' is designed to stimulate the thinking processes based on the Why, What, How of the article/book/presentation. 4MAT is a good process and worth learning more about. I start with these 4 trees on the mind-map but the results can cover hundreds of branches as each branch stimulates new ideas. Sometimes I also use it for building models for presentations. Other times for organizational charts or taxonomies. And sometimes I just data-dump a brainstorm of ideas for whatever I'm working on. The clip art and ability to use straight or curved lines, and format text as I like helps for communication also.
Pluspunten:
I've trialled or used a lot of mind mapping software and this is the one that I stick with. Mostly because it has two big criteria that I look for: 1. Ease of use - fast and intuitive 2. Flexibility - I can use a range of shapes and even the included clip art or my own images. I love that it's also available on IOS devices but so far, have been content to use it mostly on my Mac. I'm using XMind 8 Update 8 Pro via a license with Setapp (a subscription service that aggregates 200+ apps for $10/mth). I use enough of the Setapp utilities and apps that Xmind is basically free for me and that's just another big plus.
Minpunten:
Nothing to dislike really. It ticks all the boxes for me. If anything, my main gripe would be that it's not as well known as some other software so it took me a while to find it. It was via the Setapp subscription that I first found it but it is now also in the Apple App Store.
Perfect for Brainstorming and Organizing Ideas
Opmerkingen: xMind is a very useful application for brainstorming, organizing, and connecting ideas. Great ideas happen all the time inside your marvelous brain. But often and rather very quickly, these ideas fly away and are forgotten. Pen and paper works, but a digital version of mindmapping will help a lot with extra features (e.g., auto-arrange, backup, themes, gantt-chart view, presentation, easy sharing, etc.)
Pluspunten:
Mindmapping helps me to be creative, to organize and connect my ideas into an easily readable format. xMind has been my go-to mindmapping software for this. I'm using version 8, and it has a much better UI (than other similar apps). The Pro features like Gantt-Chart helps me to use it for Project Implementations. The Walk-through (Presentation Mode) is great for presentation during meetings. It also allows to export to multiple formats like Jpg, pdf, etc. Also, backup using xMind Cloud works great for backup and easy sharing. There are many pre-installed themes to make your mindmaps look formal or fun, or colorful, etc. There are similar apps which are Cloud-based, but I prefer to have xMind, which is installed locally and available for use offline (since I'm not always connected to the Internet).
Minpunten:
I'm using xMind on a Macbook, but it seems that up to now, smooth scrolling is not yet fixed by their devs. This has been brought up since 2014 (you may Google it) but still not supported. It's a shame because for me, Mac has the best touch pad/scrolling. On the other hand, I've used xMind in Windows and it scrolls smoothly using the trackpad/mouse with no problems.
Full-featured Mindmap Tool
Opmerkingen: Xmind and Mindmapping (in general) is a must for everybody. It helps one to organize our brains that's full of ideas. It just comes out naturally as we connect nodes of concepts/ideas. Pro features are worth the price you pay for (e.g., brainstorming mode, presentation mode, gantt chart view). Sharing and backup is not a problem. And it allows you to sync across different devices (smartphone, laptop). The export feature is A+ as well. It allows for easy conversion to high-res images, to pdf, to freemind (other mindmap formats).
Pluspunten:
Xmind helps me organize my ideas into a mindmap that is easy to manage (add, remove, connect nodes). The presentation feature is very helpful whenever I use my mindmap as a storyboard outline during meetings. I likewise use this app for Project Management. All project elements are mapped out and there's even a feature to put checkboxes, brainstorming, and gantt chart view. The Windows version works flawlessly (scrolling etc.). For the Mac version, see below.
Minpunten:
The Mac version still does not support smooth scrolling via Mouse/Touchpad. It makes it frustrating to navigate the mindmap. This has been reported a few years back, but still the same. Support/Dev team doesn't seem to be listening to public clamor.
A Great Idea Managememt Solution
Pluspunten:
It is very helpful in not only task management but also mind mapping and idea management.
Minpunten:
With XMind, it has been flawless and no dislikes.

Amazing Mind Map Tool
Opmerkingen: If you are looking for a mind mapping tool you should check this out.
Pluspunten:
The UI is amazing very well designed so that you can quickly take ideas that are in your head and get them transferred to a mind map. The built in styles are great, amazing colours and fonts plus the ability to change the preset style with 1 click is great. Also like that they have an online version and a downloadable version for OSX.
Minpunten:
Not much to dislike however it would be good if they made more preset layouts for each type of Map eg the Matrix and Tree table layouts only have 3 preset designs each.
Fabulous for Capturing and Organizing Ideas and Processes
Opmerkingen: XMind is where I keep all my strategic plans in mind map format. It's hugely helpful for me to have a visual record of what I'm planning and how far I've got with the implementation. My mind maps include several which detail action steps, as well as different ones for specific strategies and tactics. Once I have a mind map, I have a route to follow, and it helps me to avoid spending time on distractions. Mind maps keep me focused and XMind is so easy to use that I don't resist making plans, writing them down, and getting them done.
Pluspunten:
I love that XMind is so easy to use and yet so powerful. I remember thinking that it was very intuitive when I first tried it out, and as I use it more and more, I'm discovering that it's also surprisingly powerful. I like that it's very quick to jot down my ideas and move them around to make them fit more logically into a sequence. I use the XMind Pro version which also offers a brainstorming feature which I use for catching all my thoughts before I know exactly how I want to organize them. Once I've figured that out, it's easy to move my ideas into the mind map. This is great for the way I work because I have so many thoughts and ideas and now I have a way to corral them until I can use them. The presentation mode is very helpful, too, when I want to showcase only a part of the mind map for a client meeting, for instance. I can turn various sections of my mind map into slides which makes a large mind map much more manageable when it comes to explaining what I've been working on. I also love that it comes with a Gantt Chart display which I can use to assign all the tasks on my mind map to team members, complete with deadlines and priorities.
Minpunten:
There are two versions of XMind - the Pro which is desktop-based, and XMind 2021 which also includes a mobile version. The two versions are slightly different in their functions and which one you choose depends very much on your needs. In my case, I wanted various aspects of both versions - the presentation mode, the brainstorming mode and the mobile mode and that combination means that I would have needed to buy both versions which is frustrating. In the end I went for XMind 8 Pro and am happy with it.
Easy way to consolidate ideas
Opmerkingen: For people managing complex processes, XMind is a valuable tool. I've been using it for years, and I'm really pleased with how it has helped me achieve my challenging goals.
Pluspunten:
I love XMind because it's so easy to use. I can create mind maps in minutes, even if I'm not a graphic designer. I also like the variety of templates and styles that XMind offers. This allows me to create mind maps that look professional and polished, regardless of my skill level. One of the things I like most about XMind is the ability to collaborate on mind maps with others in real time. This is a great way to brainstorm ideas, share information, and work on projects together. I also like the fact that XMind allows me to export my mind maps to a variety of formats, so I can share them with others or use them in other applications.
Minpunten:
I don't have many complaints about Xmind. I wish they would add more tools to the free version because it has some annoying limitations. This made me question if it's worth paying for the tool. I also noticed that it can be slow and has errors on some devices, so it needs some improvements.
Mind mapping should be taken more seriously. This is the mobile tool for learning and applying it
Pluspunten:
Mind mapping is a very powerful tool for learning, as it allows me to put my thoughts on paper and actually see complex relations I am making when thinking, but otherwise would not be able to focus on minutiae of the topics because of the need to "sustain" the structure of the train-of-thought on the back of my mind. XMind is the first app for Android that meets the criteria of having all the tiny functions I need to put the thought down exactly as I had it in my mind, and eventually find loopholes and points where a reasoning is weak. This app can be very helpful for someone to find bad habits of thought and biases one has, as they become move evident when placed somewhere that can be analyzed or shared. Mind mapping education should be mandatory for any researcher, writer or public speaker, and this is the most complete tool for mind mappin I found on mobile Also, this app can be used both on PC and Android and is the best mind map creator I have found for the latter (I have tried a few before).
Minpunten:
A feature that should be added (I recognize it might not be easy) is automatic synchronization between different platforms. However, the effort of the development team is evident, by the amount of resources available
The best program to portray your ideas
Opmerkingen: An Amazing tool to create mindmaps for your professional but also personal goals/projects. Very useful mainly for team project management.
Pluspunten:
All the team can have access to the same mindmap and work there at the same time. The way to present the ideas make the tool approachable, intuitive and legible.
Minpunten:
It takes time to open the files, sometimes freezes for quite a long time or is slow uploading some URL's, files, etc.
Perfect free mindmapping tool for everyone
Pluspunten:
I have been using xmind for the past 2 years and it is by far the best mind mapping software I have ever used. I use it everyday to brainstorm, plan, and prioritize my tasks. It's a great tool for quickly getting your ideas down on paper and making them interactive with other people. If you are looking for a great mind mapping software, xmind is
Minpunten:
Part customisation of the branch is not available. 3rd party plugins are not available.
Excellent if you don't need all the bells and whistles of top end mind mapping tools
Pluspunten:
Very easy to learn and teach to others. Has all the basic functionality of a mind mapping tool
Minpunten:
Takes way to long to load. The delete button doesn't work anymore. Links get broken if you move linked documents and folders.
Powerful desktop mind mapping tool, hindered by a lack of collaboration and mobile support.
Opmerkingen: I use it primarily for brainstorming, it helps to be able to capture ideas and draw relationships between similar concepts. It is also helpful for creating charts and data visualizations for my team.
Pluspunten:
Fast and intuitive mind mapping with great support for images and documents. Many available layouts and custom themes. Cloud sync between devices, keyboard shortcuts, and a few project management features.
Minpunten:
Limited completely to the desktop. Powerful, but also overly complex, takes time to learn. Cannot freely position elements, must use pre-defined layouts. Cloud synchronization is aggravating, often results in conflicts and duplicate documents.
X-Mind Idea sharing
Opmerkingen: Works great for what it does. Maps are easily sharable and editable by multiple people.
Pluspunten:
This is a great tool to map out the thought process for a project. Helps our consultants collaborate on projects over remote situations.
Minpunten:
Sometimes a little hard to deploy and keep updated.
Excellent to start planning any project
Opmerkingen: I love that you can visually express what you have and carry a project to be able to work with the client in the planning in a visual way.
Pluspunten:
Very easy to use Workflow is excellent Integration of your own illustrations to improve the idea You can express very complex ideas
Minpunten:
Only limited to mind maps it would be great to be able to make other diagrams in the app Lack of escalation
Great Mapping Tool
Opmerkingen: Great for quick, good looking maps. A breeze to use and pick up
Pluspunten:
Visually pleasing and a very nice UI feel. The keys are intuitive and you can quickly and easily create some beautiful maps
Minpunten:
As you go down the layers in your map, it does lack the ability to customize the deeper level maps look and feel. Beyond 3 tier is probably a no-go.
Efficient mind mapping tool
Opmerkingen: Everytime we need to explore solutions and feature, xmind offers the best for this.
Pluspunten:
Compared to freemind, xmind has a better look and field
Minpunten:
I'm using the free version, never test the pro version. live collaboration might be a good improvment if not available
Excellent tool for Mind mapping
Pluspunten:
Mind mapping brings a lot of clarity in the thought process and Xmind does a wonderful job of using mind maps. They have a lot of templates that can be used as well.
Minpunten:
Not much. The software is very nice indeed.
Effective Mind-Map App
Opmerkingen: Allowing me to map out my ideas in flow and make plans for the future.
Pluspunten:
I love that it's so simple to use. Not only does it not take up much space but it has a very simple to use interface. The learning curve is minimal as it takes less than 20 minutes to understand how it works. There is also a very good export feature which allows for easy export to PNG, Word, Text, PDF as well as other social network using the Zen network. I love that there is also support for the mobile apps so that one can work while on the go. The pricing is effective as there are separate desktop and mobile apps, though it's preferrable to go for the desktop+mobile package as it costs just a bit more than the desktop subscription.
Minpunten:
It was not as colourful as I expected. The activation process was a bit cumbersome.
Keeping the overview
Opmerkingen: I use XMind to visualise more complex issues or problems according to the MECE principle and to share them with others.
Pluspunten:
With XMind, I am able to visualise even complex issues in a structured and comprehensible way. Even when I look at a diagram that I created a long time ago, I can quickly understand the information again.
Minpunten:
When creating mind maps, the arrangement of the shapes is sometimes a little suboptimal. This causes additional effort due to the manual reorganisation.
Great mind mapping software
Opmerkingen: Have been using in consulting work to map out processes that are going in several directions at once. Helps those whe are visionary yet work alone to bring others on board with processes that both parties can understand. Helps many entrepreneurs to work at the speed ot their thoughts when presenting. I love working with it to break down what seem to be complicated issues, only because they have no way to break down "stream of consciousness" explanations of problems.
Pluspunten:
If you don't register the trial you can use it for as long as you need. Much better than a 15-day trial that many others give you. Many times 2 weeks does not give you much time. It is great mind mapping software!
Minpunten:
It is limited in its flex ability. Not able to make the maps as fluid as some programs. In many ways it makes maps like everyone else does, it just does it better.
