Game Changer for making charts in Adobe Illustrator
Opmerkingen: I am mostly using Datylon to visualize analytics data about games, to be used inside data reports and also as part of marketing materials to communicate the results to our users. I used to have to pre-visualize this in some type of charting software and then redraw everything in Illustrator to make them presentable (given our poorly the native chart implementation is). So I jumped on to Datylon after finding out about it! Making charts is no longer a pain after that.
Natively design charts using easy-to-use panels. Being able to import any CSVs and select the columns intended for different fields, together with a huge collection of charts, makes it easy to create charts that can be used for final delivery. What makes things extra nice is that the color palettes can use swatches directly from the Illustrator Swatch Library — so it means that it’s possible to set a global color in Illustrator and have it reflected in multiple places. This makes organizing and editing complex charts easier.
When the chart has many data points (e.g. scatter plot with thousands of values), performance can suffer a bit (both in the render and the UI). This might have to do with the UI not being native and so a lot of things are done behind the scene to render the advanced layout. It doesn’t affect most of the charts I create though so I’m still happy with it. But if this can be improved, I would use it on a lore more charts with complex visualizations.
Hi See-ming, Thanks for the extensive and useful feedback! Performance is important so do not hesitate to contact our support team via [email protected] and send us some samples for benchmarking. It might help us to optimize the performance. The Datylon Team.
Must have for data visualisation
Opmerkingen: Datylon saved my day with big report documents, obtaining excellent results; yet, the learning curve is steep and you have to be creative sometimes to get always what you want from your graphs.
Note: I’m a Datylon user in Adobe Illustrator environment. Datylon is great for big report projects: once you have set up your graph, you can apply it to several sets of data without any annoying “reset” issues from the Illustrator Graph tool.
The software lacks in consistency of features among the several graph types, especially the “Data label” feature, available only for Line graphs. I’ve been able to work this out by applying a Line graph w/data labels over Candle graphs, but it meant losing a lot of time in setting up both spreadsheets and Datylon graphs; some easy tweaks are not available (i.e.: in Data Labels, it will automatically delete leading zeros, even if the source data is set as text, and you can’t switch it off); in order to solve these issues, you need a good knowledge in both spreadsheet and Illustrator softwares.
Hi Alexandros, Great to read you classify us as a "must have". But we acknowledge there is always room for improvement. We do have data labels on all our charts. But we are eager to hear what does not work for you so we can fix it. Don't hesitate to contact us via chat on our website or via [email protected] The Datylon Team
Opmerkingen: It was great, I'm really statisfied of it, It was a good experience
the idea of being integrate in illustrator, the full control you can have on our graph is awesome, and all the kind of preset are really efficient
We can't have a color and typography (including size, style, margin) preset, or even change the default typography

Dear Aliou, thank you for the lovely review. Your feedback is highly appreciated. We see a lot of value in your suggestion to save styling settings and we are considering adding it. We'll keep you posted.
a beginnings perspective
Opmerkingen: I'm still a beginner and learning every time. but I am glad that such a tool exists and recommend it to colleagues.
the ability to adjust data live and adjust the size afterwards.
if you make the data visualization you can't ungroup it to adjust something small that doesn't belong
Thanks for the review! The tool requires indeed a bit of a learning curve but we are working to improve on that. Please note it is possible to ungroup a Datylon chart. See this article in our Help Center: https://help.datylon.com/tutorials/ungroup-charts-in-illustrator And if you have other questions, do not hesitate to chat with us on our website or even book a session with one of our experts for more tips & tricks.
Great addition to Illustrator
Opmerkingen: Overall I love this plugin and will keep using it. Makes charts in Illustrator easier to create, easier to adjust and better looking overall,
Been looking for a better way to do charts/graphs in Illustrator - Datylon fits the bill. Easy to install as a plugin, great options for chart design and really easy to import/insert data. SOOOO much better than Illustrators outdated charts tool - easy to resize (yes!).
Downsides - because you can customize nearly everything, it takes quite a few clicks to style a simple chart. I wish I had more control over the default font (why can't I set my own?) and the way colors are handled with swatches takes a little getting used to. Only thing missing really is more heat map options - geographic heatmaps would be an amazing addition to this tool.
Hi Emily, Thanks for the review and the nice comments. Your suggestions for improvement are very valid. Although it might take a while to develop, we'll certainly put it on our roadmap! Kind Regards, The Datylon Team
