Webdam, our college-wide photo management system

Opmerkingen: The overall experience selecting, implementing and using Webdam has been a good one for us - it serves our needs and although the company has changed hands a few times, they continue to innovate.

Pluspunten:

It's great at storing and managing massive amounts of assets, specifically for us: photos. Not only do we store thousands of professional photos taken each school year, we use this tool to house the hundreds of thousands of archival photos that we have scanned in going back many decades.

Minpunten:

We regularly run out of cloud storage space and need to re-up our overall storage amount as well as our deep freeze Glacier amounts of storage for archival photos.

WebDAM is a good, but old DAM

Opmerkingen: We liked using WebDAM. It was a huge upgrade over AWS S3 storage. We could find files and assign a lot of metadata to them.

Pluspunten:

We loved using WebDAM back in 2016. It was one of the leaders at the time and provided us with a good DAM and a good API to work with. Files were searchable and the media team was able to execute their jobs without much issue finding the files they needed.

Minpunten:

Bynder purchased WebDAM and talked us into transitioning to Bynder. The transition process was horrible. We were told that WebDAM would be phased out, but as you can see here it still exists because other users refused to leave. WebDAM is a good product but it likely is reaching the end of its development cycle and will fall behind other products in the field.

Good product, but SLOW

Opmerkingen: Fine if you're not using huge files. Smaller files will be easier to keep software from slowing down

Pluspunten:

I love the User Interface, its easy to use, easy to understand and a pleasure to look at and use every day.

Minpunten:

Boy oh boy is it slow. It slows everything down and crashes Indesign frequently. Its a shame because its such a great product other than that.

Easy way to view internal marketing documents, pictures and videos

Pluspunten:

Webdam is extremely easy to upload, view, and share content within the organization. I use this program almost daily.

Minpunten:

Once in a while the program will log me out of my profile and I can't access the content.

Clunky Solution to Managing Your Data

Opmerkingen: We are using Webdam as the archive for our organization's media, and to a lesser extent as a place to share files between departments (design and photography, for example). Our representative has been responsive to feature requests and bug reports. However, the lack of advanced organizational tools like facial recognition for photos, and the difficult workflow for sharing folders outside the organization have left us pretty handicapped.

Pluspunten:

Webdam does have great support for a variety of file types, which is key for us since we capture and use a vast variety of media. It also has pretty seamless integration with Dropbox, which is essential to our team workflow.

Minpunten:

We frequently have to download multiple files at once, and Webdam requires you to wait on their back-end to zip the files before download. That takes an indeterminate amount of time. So you just have to sit and wait, or download all the files individually. This is not a great user experience, especially when you're trying to plan out the time it will take for a task to be completed.

Pluspunten:

The branded portals are easy to manage and customizable. Works very well for a company like mine that has multiple brands with different users of each.

Minpunten:

The search functionality is not as advanced as some other platforms. If metadata isn't associated with an asset you can't search it. Other softwares use AI to search for objects in pictures.

Opmerkingen: We used it to organize our photos and videos. Had great training.

Pluspunten:

The ways you can assign metadata for searching for the assets.

Minpunten:

There are a lot of decision to make about folder structure and metadata.

Great and user friendly

Opmerkingen: Very good, a few ibugs but overall I love it!

Pluspunten:

Very user friendly, connects easily and can be linked to Adobe very easily

Minpunten:

Takes a very long time to update, sometimes it will just disconect or be outdated randomly.
