PRTG Network Monitor reviews

That really made my Day!

Opmerkingen: First of all: Actually (April 2016) the product is free for up to 100 Sensors! I was searching for an easy solution to monitor the internetconnection of one of my customers from outside. They sporadically experienced strange bandwidth problems and the cable provider didn't solve the problem within months. So while searching for an easy to install and use monitoring (simple ping) solution I found PRTG from Paessler in Nuremberg. I 've heard of it before as the Windows based alternative to Nagios. What can I say: I expected a solid Dice Game and ended up in Las Vegas! Installed withing minutes on a small Celeron machine running Windows 7. This runs the core Server and the Probe. You create Groups within the Windows (or Browserbased) Desktop. Within those Groups you create Devices and Sensors (Ping, HTTP, FTP, NTP, SIP, SMTP, SNMP Switch Traffic, ... and I'd say hundreds of others) at Locations you can define and are shown on a map. A configurable HTTPS allows secure Browser and mobile APP access. I use the one for my Windows phone that shows me my favorite (customer) Sensors directly. Automatically scan your Network (that might create a lot of Devices and Sensors, especially when you are using SNMP ready Switches, but don't worry, just pause them before you run out of your licenses). Monitor Switch Traffic if you wonder how long the Windows 10 updates disturb your other Machines. You can install remote Probes in other networks to monitor them and still collect all data on one central monitoring server. PS: In the end, the cable provider changed the modem after I sent them several times very clear screenshots from PRTG where you could see the 1800 ms echos all three weeks instead of 32 ms the rest of the time.

Minpunten:

Really! I have been thinking, but didn't find that much. Rather ... nothing? OK, one: you need a Windows system. That might be an issue for some.

Simple & Powerful Monitoring tool,feature oriented,reliable sensors

Opmerkingen: Notifications and mail alerts for minute attributes in all devices rescue us from major hardware or network issues and reduce downtime to a large extent.

Pluspunten:

User-friendly dashboard, Easy to configure. High quality sensor reporting, Can monitor almost all server platforms, Networking devices, an awesome product.

Minpunten:

Nothing much to say, almost perfect. The only suggestion is to make it budget-friendly for medium-level customers.

Overwogen alternatieven: Network Performance Monitor

Almost 2 Year with my favourite Monitoring Tool

Opmerkingen: I've been training some new persons in our company to use PRTG, and they are using it like pros.It is a great tool to use, today we have more than 35 thousand sensors monitoring devices.

Pluspunten:

PRTG is an easy-to-use monitoring tool, it is easy to get going, To set up a monitoring environment is easy, just deploy a core server or a remote probe connected to the core server.The auto discovery is a great tool to get the monitoring of devices fast.

Minpunten:

Sometimes the auto discovery tool affect the application performance.The Map Designer should be better with more options to personalize the maps.A Grafana extension should be implemented.

Easy to implement, web based and nearly agent less monitoring

Opmerkingen: It was easy to install and manage, it's helpling a lot with monitoring and alerting and it's aeasy to use. Also to adapt or tweak thresholds is very easy.

Pluspunten:

It's very easy to implement and for a lot of the user cases it does not need an agent or software to be installed

Minpunten:

For well known Enterprise Products e.g. VMWare VCenter there are only limited intergration available.

prtg monitoring

Opmerkingen: More than 5 years. monitoring (ISP infrastructure, Enterprise clients infrastructure)

Pluspunten:

Intuitive management interface. Ease to integrate to your environment

Minpunten:

Price. But if you compare to other monitoring services, it is normal

Opmerkingen: A very easy and intuitive tool with a lot of material available for consultation without the need to program in code

Native sensors and easy customization of dashboards

Some sensors still need to be configured via script or OID

PRTG Network Monitor

Pluspunten:

Easy to deploy, start out with a free tier to get to know the product and the data it can provide.

Minpunten:

Importing MIBs for odd products and getting the right scales kb vs MB is sometimes a chore. Their support is great to help out.

Best and most outstanding Network Monitoring tool

Opmerkingen: I recommend this for all network engineers, it's massively and Mightily one of the best I have used so far

Pluspunten:

Using PRTG network tool for my first time was quite an easy one, I love PRTG for it's ease to use.. novices can easily get along with the software in less than no time

Minpunten:

I haven't encountered any setbacks using PRTG network tool

Pluspunten:

The software is easy to setup, learn and use. And also value for money compared to other solutions.

Minpunten:

The GUI could be a bit more modern.And real-time monitoring should be nice to have.

Monitoring the network with PRTG Network Monitor

Opmerkingen: A complete network monitoring software (covering applications, network traffic, devices, security and others) that generates alerts in case of problems.

Pluspunten:

For me the most valuable function is the database monitoring, configuring its corresponding sensor. Improving performance, identifying security gaps and other benefits. It is easy to use even on the first use, as the software configuration is fast.

Minpunten:

Although it is a full-featured software, it does not yet have automation for troubleshooting. Thus, an employee must be responsible for managing and resolving problems that arise in real time.

The software you want monitoring your network

Opmerkingen: Fantastic, we can proactively monitor connections and equipment, often we are working on fixing it before the end users know it is broken

Pluspunten:

Easy to use, reliable, can email or text about alerts, can execute scripts etc. Able to monitor snmp, pings, https and all sorts of things.

Minpunten:

It is licensed by sensor, so you can easily run out of you monitor everything, you'll need to be careful to only monitor what you need to

Network & Bandwidth Monitoring Tool

Opmerkingen: Good Product to monitor your networks but for huge network its not sufficient, but for normal networks its good to notify and other feature are very good i-e up time, alert system and cluster fail-over solutions ,
in the last PRTG interface must be need improvments.

Pluspunten:

Its a Simple Software to Monitor Network and bandwidth user, application wise. Monitoring & Manage all applications in details statistics in network, Correct Up-time/downtime for devices. *Flexible alerting (different types or Alert are available in this product) Cluster fail-over solution

Minpunten:

Interface is no good and creating huddles in configurations, automatically connection between links is unavailable. Cluster fail-over solution not so good.

Know when there's a problem before the end users start calling

Opmerkingen: We monitor customer routers that we service and their ISP gateways. We can find out rather quickly when a customer goes down, or when a customer is having an issue with just the router, and we do not have to be actively doing it ourselves. We are just notified when there's an issue and jump in and start resolving right it away.

Pluspunten:

It tells me when there is a problem without much overhead on my part, and it puts me ahead of the game before end users start notifying me there is a problem. Its a pretty great feeling being able to call the end user up and tell them that you have already detected a problem and that you were actively working on before they have gotten around to notify you there was even an issue.

Minpunten:

It takes some time to set up and configure the software. Its not as intuitive as I'd like it to be, but its entirely manageable. You just need to invest the time to learn it get it working the way you want and then from that point on its a breeze.

Easy to use network monitor program

Opmerkingen: I love this tool because it is so easy to setup. Very user friendly and free license with 100 nodes.

Pluspunten:

This is a very easy software to implement. It also provide 100 nodes for free license. You can implement it within 30 minutes.

Minpunten:

The free license is limited to 100 nodes.

Opmerkingen: we are very satisfied with the product. the support is very helpful in almost all cases. the product is scalable and can handle a wide range of notifications.

Pluspunten:

prtg uses onboard resources and no lokal agent.

Minpunten:

there is a lack of a good priced solution for small environments

Why Only PRTG?

Opmerkingen: It's been more than three years since using this software and our team is also quite satisfied with this product. We are mostly using this product for monitoring purposes, we have more than 100 servers and networks routers, and switches, PRTG has done a tremendous job to fulfill all of our requirements in one application.

Pluspunten:

when you have to monitor thousands of server and network routers and switches in one platform. I will always recommend the PRTG Network monitoring tool.

Minpunten:

I have been using this application for more than 3 years and I didn't find any drawback to turning me around for any other software.

Excellent tool to monitor and classify the bandwidth of the network.

Opmerkingen: I use PRTG on a daily basis in the company, which has helped me to quickly and easily verify the behavior of the network and that I can view it from anywhere via the web.

Pluspunten:

* I can know what applications are causing high traffic. * I like the simplicity of its interface, which allows me to configure the monitoring sensors, as well as create reports of bandwidth usage for each one. * The web interface with the I can give access to the visualization of the graphics and tables to the other members of my telecommunications team.

Minpunten:

PRTG is a software that I use daily and continuously in my work as a network analyst and I have not been inconvenienced, just keep improving it every day. The only thing I can suggest is that they launch a native version for Linux systems.

Versatile Tool for Network Monitoring

Opmerkingen: Overall, this is a very good tool that has all the functionality of some of the more expensive products without the inflated price tag. I would definitely recommend that any Network Administrator looking for a good monitoring tool give this a try before purchasing something that costs twice as much.

Pluspunten:

I like the variety of alerting features as well as the visualizations available in the dashboard. You can easily produce executive level graphs to analyze trends across your network devices. The ability to customize which processes on each device to monitor makes this tool even more handy.

Minpunten:

While this is an overall excellent product, it can be a little bit clunky to get setup. Also, until you get the alerting tuned right where you want it, it can be a little bit noisy as far as generating emails go.

Free network monitoring for small businesses with 10-20 servers.

Opmerkingen: Free network monitoring on a Windows server.

Pluspunten:

I love the fact it's Windows based and has easy setup features. The biggest pro is the free 100 sensors. If you're running a small business with 10-20 servers, this is the perfect solution to get them monitored for free. We found it to be extremely reliable for this particular use and upgrades were a breeze.

Minpunten:

Once you're out of the 100 sensor free version, the cost jumps into the thousands. So if you're expecting to grow much more, then keep that cost in mind. Also, the software installs far too many sensors per server when using the "auto discovery" feature. It's best to manually setup sensors as needed.

PRTG is a great network monitoring software!

Opmerkingen: My overall experience with PRTG is great! I've been using that for about 7 years now and have 3 PRTG servers, each one to monitor a specific location. I have just a few issues over this amount of time, but those are totally acceptable because no software is perfect. This one is pretty good and worth a try.

Pluspunten:

- There is a free version of up to 100 sensors - Dashboard is great - There are a lot of sensors for all purposes available - You can monitor remote hosts

Minpunten:

- Very rarely, after an update, some sensors start to malfunction

Great product for small to mid size organisations

Opmerkingen: Really positive - it will transform what you think you know to actually what you can see and act on.

Pluspunten:

The quick setup and ability to monitor small to mid size environments very quickly. If you are a small business with less than 100 end points then this is the go to product as you get the first 100 devices free

Minpunten:

It can be a bit of info overload and you can very quickly run out of devices (under the 100 free) very quickly so have to be quite specific as to what you want to monitor

Paessler PRTG Network monitor

Opmerkingen: Great software overall.

Pluspunten:

It can monitor many if not all of your network devices, such as firewall, printers, access points, along with software status running on pretty much all hardware, such as real time statistics, can create html maps to embed onto your intranet pages such as with Sharepoint, it also has a great built in reporting interface along with email notifications.

Minpunten:

It can take some time to setup sensors the first time, also some of these sensors can be quite complex, requiring the user to call tech support for a viable solution for the expected outcome.

PRTG Network Monitoring

Pluspunten:

This app was very simple to install and configure. Installation and configuration was very intuitive, as well as the user interface. Also the ability to monitor and setup alerts based upon geographical location makes the app easier to define and monitor

Minpunten:

The GUI provides a tremendous amount of info, perhaps too much on an individual screen, which can make it overwhelming on occassion

Best Network Monitoring tool out there

Opmerkingen: Our previous product (Solar-you-know-what) was a beast to configure and keep up and running. PRTG took away a lot of the maintenance and got us straight down to data. Custom sensors have also helped us out on a few devices that are really specialized and specific to our operations.

Pluspunten:

- Clean interface - Lightweight/no agents required on endpoints - Maps feature is super customizable; map rotation lets you set up a NOC-like screen

Minpunten:

Paessler recently changed the pricing structure; the old system was a little bit more budget friendly and in my opinion easier to manage.
