Opmerkingen: I literally use it everyday. Here are some examples:
1. Online workspace when I work on different computers in different locations. I always work on the latest (auto backed-up) version of the sheet. 2. One of the coolest and most powerful features is to provide data input sources for Data Studio (Google's powerful graphing tool). Output reports from for instance Facebook Ads reporting into a csv file, then upload that CSV into a Google Sheet . Then import that Sheet as data source into DataStudio and create amazing graphs and reports.
And I automate the whole process with scheduled reporting and uploads to make it set and forget. Efficiency and automation is of great importance in my small business.
That's why Google sheets really is a huge value adding tool for me.

Pluspunten:

1. The Powerful Formulas (for instance Arrayformula which lets you populate column(s) of data via complex calculation or manipulation with one formula in the top cell. 2. Regular Expressions built in - enables very clever data manipulation and filtering 3. Easy integration with other Saas tools like Chatbots, Charting tools, etc - provides memory, computation and automation to your process flows 4. Online storage - always available from anywhere and any computing device

Minpunten:

1. The range select procedure is not very user friendly - make it closer to Excel way of doing. 2. When you copy rows or columns, provide the option to insert the copied rows or columns at the destination (like Excel). Currently you can only paste (overwrite). So you always need to make space before copy /paste which is unnecessary effort

Easy to use and very hepful!

Opmerkingen: I have enjoyed the ease of using Google Sheets. More people are switching and using Google over Microsoft so it is easier to use and have others outside of the district use. It is a quick and easy way to share information, track data, and keep a log.

I love how easy it is to create different sheets. Once you figure out how to do what you need, it is easy to use again. There is a lot you can do with Google Sheets. I have used it to track data, make a schedule, take notes, and share information with other educators. I would highly recommend this to other people (even if they aren't in education.

Minpunten:

The only thing I have come across that I have struggled with is creating functions for very specific things. I tried what others had said to do, but it didn't work. It wasn't terrible but would've been nice to have.

GoogleSheets live in the cloud and allow for co-working with ease. With nearly all functions of Excel, GoogleSheets permit you to store your data, sort, and communicate with your team. The added bonus of it living within your Google Drive make even the most buried sheet find-able with a quick search.

Google sheets does not have the same functions as Excel in terms of formulas and technical aspects. Windows keyboard's shortcuts also doesn't work well with this software.

Try as I might, I just cannot get used to Sheets compared to Excel. I think that Excel functions are simpler and all of the menus are in more intuitive places. I can never find the filters and data format tools in Sheets when I need them because they are in different (less intuitive) places than Excel.

I can share a sheet with collaborators and have easy-to-use, granular control over access levels from team member to team member, down to the individual spreadsheet cell! Google Apps Script means that if there's a feature you need that Sheets doesn't have, you can create it.

My only issue is that I can't customize the menus the way I could in Microsoft Excel. The finicky little differences in functionality between Sheets & Excel used to bother me, but that has fallen off over the years.

I use it for everything and since i also handle IT for the office I essentially dictated that Sheets is what is what we offer outside extraordinary circumstances. Always there, always works. It has really made things such as simple pricing reports, equipment tracking very simple. I have not used Excel for years.

It works great in all those usual spreadsheet ways but the sharing and collaboration is really top notch and while it's a bit standard nowadays when it launched it was really revolutionary. No more emailing files back and forth or file shares with permission issues. While many of those problems can be solved with good IT practices Sheets made it out of the box easy. It really just works and it's fast to load as well.

Minpunten:

Printing setup could be better, i know that's a compromise with the browser running the show, but it almost always takes some adjusting to get things to print out the way you want.

Google Sheets Give Microsoft Excel a Run for Its Money

Opmerkingen: Project management is one area where we have used Google Sheets. Several departments have tasks to complete and being able to have one document to work off of really saves time and mistakes!

Pluspunten:

I like that you are able to do just about everything you can do in Microsoft Excel with the added benefit that you can collaborate and share the document. I like being able to see who is editing the document on the fly and being able to download it in different formats.

Minpunten:

I wish that more programs that use an excel format to export documents would give you the option to choose between excel and sheets. We have an analytics software that will only export to Excel. Not Google sheets fault at all but would make the decision easier to go completely with them.

Sheets: Can be very useful

Opmerkingen: We used sheets to replace some of our excel spreadsheets and I think overall it was a positive. It allows far more easier access to collaboration and editing, and the ability to access a sheet virtually anywhere you have the internet is amazing (phone, computer, tablet, etc.). You can leave notes for other users, create and share new books and link them to anything else. It has made tracking certain things vastly more efficient. Sheets does lack some features that excel may offer, and some of the formulas and "control" is different but I think the ability to add custom modules is far easier and can supplement the missing features. My personal experience is automating sheets is far easier than in Excel

Pluspunten:

Being able to collaborate on sheets with others is I think the biggest draw of this application. I am able to update things on the fly and not have to worry about version management or other people using outdated data. I also enjoy being able to access sheets virtually anywhere I have internet access which means I can review/edit sheets basically no matter where I am

Minpunten:

Fundamental differences and missing features from excel that made the transition a little difficult. The initial conversion was probably the biggest hurdle but once those were overcome it was one of those things that I wish I had bitten the bullet and done before

Why would you use something else?

Opmerkingen: Solid easy to use, easy to deploy. I had been using Excel for what I needed it to do for years, and it was simple switching over to sheets.

I like how integrates with other apps I use both inside and out of the Google environment. For what I need it for it does everything that Excel does and you always have it because it is in the cloud.

You need connectivity to access your files and you need to have a Google gmail account. Which 98% of the time is not an issue.

My go-to for documentation!

Opmerkingen: This is something that I use daily, as a replacement for a planner (the fact that I can so easily customize what I have on my study plan is a big benefit to me), as well as a tool for group work on the biostatistical analysis of data. It is something that is highly customizable to what you need (hence my two vastly different methods of using it), and keeps your laptop from slowing down due to either 1) large program use or 2) high amount of storage.

Pluspunten:

As a student, there is a lot of group work that goes into different projects, especially when learning about biostatistics and other classes where complex data-driven mathematics must be done. Google sheets allow for team collaboration in the simplest way possible. Also, its a very seamless software. When compared to Excel, it does not glitch at all (whereas on my computer, because excel is such a large program, it often slows down other apps if I am multitasking, or freezes up itself). Lastly, it also frees up a lot of storage on your device! Since none of the sheets are actually stored on your computer, it won't take up memory (and is simple to retrieve, either through your google drive or through the google sheets website)

Minpunten:

The amount of formulas and programs that it has is slightly less than excel, and if you are working in a research lab then exporting data from google sheets to a statistical analysis program may not be compatible (since many of them require to excel as a source for data). However, if you are just looking for a simple datasheet, then this would not even be a problem for you.

And you can see it at real time. It provides data analytics functions, that let you create pivot tables to generate reports, graphs, charts, etc. I can also build forms within the sheet and creating a little programming functions to automate some tasks. It can be attached within email very easily, very well integrated with gmail.

I have used Microsoft Excel for a very long time. Google sheets have some different shortcuts that makes me get confused sometimes. Also when you enter url links into the cell, and I always accidentally click on it and open a web page, but I only want to edit that field. When data set is too big, it gets extremely slow and sometimes it crashes itself and won't even open. It would be nice if the performance can be improved.

I can always look back since I've stored them permanently in Google Drive. Google Sheets is a perfect addition to the Google family. You can take data from Google docs or elsewhere and organize it neatly in a spreadsheet. Google Sheets is very similar to Excel, but it's entirely free and also on the cloud, which is quite useful when you're away from your computer. Combining it with Google Drive really makes it a complete solution, where you can store, share, and invite others to save it to their Drive, edit or view.

Minpunten:

It takes a bit of time to get used to the layout and become comfortable with all the features, but this is to be expected with any tool like this, unless you're already a regular, experienced user of spreadsheets. Being on the cloud could also be a slight disadvantage if the data you're entering is privileged, but the benefit of being able to access it on the go outweighs that slight negative, for me.

Our business uses GOOGLE SHEETS every day. We have different sheets set up for paperless inventory, and different managers can access them to make changes. We have a lot of moving parts and changing ingredient lists, and the fact that someone can add an item to our kitchen ingredient list, and someone else has instant access is really helpful for our business.

Minpunten:

I have a lot of email accounts, and some of them are outside of Google. Sometimes that creates issues if there is a shared SHEET that gets sent to a non-google account. It makes sense that you have to have a Google account (not necessarily an email) but it can get tricky having to ask people to resend an invitation to a personal email address.

Being able to collaborate on spreadsheets real-time is a huge time saver which is what our team love about Google Sheets. Minpunten:

I don't like that I am not able to use the Ctrl+Shift+V feature when I am on incognito mode. I use a lot of browsers when working and always open them in incognito to make them load faster. There are data that I need to enter in a spreadsheet which also involves ensuring that the newly entered data follows the existing formatting of the spreadsheet, and I had to open a new window that is not in incognito to be able to do that.

The perfect answer for collaboration on data

Opmerkingen: This app made me a data geek. I love it for its ease of use, wide online documentation and free version to start and learn.

The best feature that has made this product indispensable to me to this day, is the possiblity to link 2 cloud based sheets and cherry pick what data is visible to what team member. Something that is not possible with any alternative.

The one feature that is an eyesore for me is that it is not possible to array a concatenation of text.

We don't have to put additional efforts to get familiar with google sheets. it has all the facilities as same as MS Excel. It has a very clean and useful interface. Sometimes we faced some formatting issues when we export our google sheets as a word document or pdf. Same thing happens when we import documents to google sheets.

Easy to access

Opmerkingen: If I were to compare Excel and Google Sheets to horses, I would say Excel is more of a workhorse, capable of moving mass bits of information while Sheets would be more of your racehorse, best used for quick bits of information that you need to get to your team instantaneously. Both are necessary, just function a little different. If you stay within the bounds, Sheets is fantastic.

Pluspunten:

It is so handy to have access to my sheets anytime I need them and have access to the internet. It's great that this is integrated with GSuite and can transfer over to Excel (for the most part) as well. It's extremely handy to be able to give access to a particular sheet to virtually anybody and quite handy to be able to place restrictions on certain shared users to not be able to modify a certain area/cell, etc. It has most of the same functionality that you'd find in Excel, with a few modifications. That factor makes it clean and simple to use for less complicated tasks.

Minpunten:

It's deceiving in that it works so closely to Excel, but it doesn't have near as much of the capability as it's counterpart. You could be creating a rather complicated workbook needing to reference various sheets while utilizing intricate functions and then realize that it won't do what you need it to. This is in part because a lot of the functions are the same/altered. Not a problem because this isn't Excel, but it just takes a bit to get used to the differences and then remember them when you switch between the two quite frequently. It also limits the amount of data you can store on it to whatever is available in your Drive. Again, shouldn't be a problem unless you plan on storing a vast amount of data in one place that could build up rather quickly.
