The best BI Product so far

Opmerkingen: It was the greatest experience we have with a BI tool. We really loved it.

Pluspunten:

This solution has everything for Data Analysis, since ETL to Visualization. Great tool for Business Analytics. Supports a wide variety of data sources, great reporting features and capabilities, you can publish to PDF, predictive analytics, and easy to create Dashboards with multiple templates.

Minpunten:

They need to work on their compatibility with web browsers, it did not work with Opera. The price is a little high per user. You cannot share a Dashboard unless the other party has a license.

New age and Traditional BI tool

Opmerkingen: Cognos is used for operational reporting and analytics and schedule reports to be sent via email to users on a duly basis. Used in mobile as well.

Pluspunten:

Cognos 11 comes with all the latest features expected in a BI tool, the graph generations and story buildings as well as predictions.

Minpunten:

Interactive pdf is not available for reports. Can be difficult to implement without admin support for end users.

IBM Cognos Analytics 11

Opmerkingen: Cognos Analytics is currently meeting our financial and operational reporting needs.

Pluspunten:

We like the ability to create custom reports to meet user requirements. This includes being able to link data coming from databases using Cognos Framework Manager, plus the ability to create SQL select queries within Cognos that pull data directly from custom SQL objects. We also appreciate that Cognos Analytics still supports the use of Portals that we created in a previous version of the product. Other features that we appreciate are Bursting, Conditional Styling and Rendering, Exports to Excel and PDF, and drill-through reports, to name a few.

Minpunten:

Crosstabs could use more features and provide more flexibility in formatting.

Cognos - A good Enterprise Reporting Tool

Opmerkingen: I used Cognos as an analytical tool by linking our ERP (Microsoft Dynamic NAV) to it. All the financial data would be mapped & a lot of customized reports were taken out like Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA). The user interface is pretty good. The CUBEs are little confusing but once you get the grip they work very well. The ability to drill down the reports to very basic level is a plus point
A little tough to learn & customize. It's a little slow when dealing with a medium amount of data.

Pluspunten:

Easily integrating with most of the ERPs, very good for customizing reports, very detailed reporting

Minpunten:

Tough to learn & not many resources available, you will get the value of the money invested in it only if you are able to get the most out of it

On a monthly basis, we do key reconciliations to predict, and reports allow us to record all data pieces. Reports may take some time to execute depending on their size; reporting software may include cautions about where students committed errors and the report will not run; alternatively, more thorough instructions for new employees are provided. You obviously require proper training, and anyone who aren't familiar with SQL will struggle to put it up. I've been seeing some delays while switching sites or loading materials, but I appreciate IBM's ability to work on this issue.

Opmerkingen: We have been using Cognos BI for many years for data reporting and performance analysis. Our business analysts were constantly complaining about the long delays to get data extracts. Withe Cognos Analytics we were in a position to give the BA access to pertinent data extracts in record time and with minimum hands-on training. This empowered them and allowed them to spend more time on building predictions and preparing recommendations for corrective actions.

The quick learning curve which turns every intuition into a positive experience

The story telling capabilities are not seamless enough and consume too much efforts to be reach the desired effect.

Agrxis Review on IBM Cognos Analytics

Opmerkingen: My experience with IBM Cognos Analytics has been great. I have used the platform and discovered it to be exceptionally robust and user-friendly. I can navigate and access the many features and functionalities with ease because to the user-friendly UI. The excellent reporting and analytics tools allow me to easily derive insightful conclusions from my data. The platform's powerful collaboration tools have also significantly increased our team's effectiveness and productivity. IBM's customer service has been outstanding, with quick responses and useful advice whenever needed. In general, IBM Cognos Analytics has changed the game for our company by enabling us to make data-driven decisions that are both effective and efficient. Anyone in need of a complete and dependable analytics solution should definitely consider it.

Cognos - Fantastic In Some Areas; Lags In Others

Opmerkingen: It’s a means to an end. Not perfect, but no tool is. Pretty much everyone I know in the industry operates in a multi-tool BI environment. Cognos, like most, hasn’t been able to put together the full package.

Pluspunten:

Pixel perfect printing. Most competitors have tagged printing as a way of the past, but there’s still a half generation that relies heavily upon it. This can’t be overlooked.

Minpunten:

The flexibility/functionality of the viz tools can’t compete with competitors. I think it also has a more difficult learning curve. It isn’t an intuitive tool.

Powerful, Reliable, Expensive

Opmerkingen: I've been working with IBM Cognos since version 8.4
I like this product and see how IBM is improving it.

Pluspunten:

It's been a long on the market. It's offered by IBM It has a great integration with many databases

Minpunten:

New version (CA 11) has some inconvenient UI changes (new side panel which does not allow to easily navigate and see all properties) Many things need to be done manually instead of integrating as best practices (security, deployments, testing, version control, etc.) New studios are not that intuitive / transparent

My Review of IBM Cognos Analytics

Opmerkingen: I use IBM Cognos daily, as this is the tool made available by SAP Concur to work with Business Intelligence reports. I use it to provide the necessary information to those who require it, and it works more or less like a database, where you can apply SQL language - but in a slightly different format.

Pluspunten:

I think this tool is quite good, since it allows the user several functionalities: create and adapt BI reports, automate the export of a report in a set period and for the necessary containers (they do not need a license to receive), etc. . I love working with this tool from IBM. It allows some SQL language, and some configuration features that are very good too.

Minpunten:

One thing I can point out as a cons of this tool, is the fact that it does not always return the correct information (because the user, without knowing it, can mix incompatible information) - and only at a more advanced stage do we notice that the information is not correct - because we have no error information. When we actually have information about the errors, this is also not very detailed, that is, we are left without knowing what the error is anyway. It is difficult to make correct associations in this tool, because it is very restricted in relation to the use of the database and the compatibility of the data between them.

COGNOS

Opmerkingen: Cognos makes it easy to design reports that match the look-and-feel required by the client. Report rendering time is also very fast. Browser support can be touchy and Dynamic Cubes are very hardware intensive.Cognos has strong out of the box capabilities with a wide array of add-ons, and good interoperability with other IBM analytics and data suites

Pluspunten:

Compatibility mode queries allow for custom ODBC and JDBC connection to made, so even if there is no native compatibility other databases can still be used as a source if needed. Dynamic Cubes are capable of querying against millions of rows in seconds when properly set up with sufficient hardware resources. Standard Reports are snappy, returning data and rendering quickly, as long as the pagination is kept to reasonable quantities.

Minpunten:

Due to Active Reports packaging all of the data in the file and prerendering charts, file size can get quite large (easily several megabytes) and the initial load time can be quite long when opening it. It is best used for basic overviews and other times when some "flash" is needed, but not a large amount of data. Configuring the interoperability with TM1 and SPSS is a little more on the technical side than most other tasks. You could call the development process "Front heavy" meaning most of the development will be modeling. This means that it will take longer to end up with visualized data than other tools.

Cognos pulls meaning out of any data

Opmerkingen: It gives big data meaning and helps us answer business question so we can make smart decisions and provide relevant and cleanly formatted data to our customers.

Pluspunten:

It is straight-forward and feature-rich. We have combined dozens and dozens of queries into a single report without any issue before, so it has that advantage over most of the alternative solutions.

Minpunten:

The version of Cognos we are running currently makes it difficult to pinpoint the bottle-neck of certain reports.

Cognos is a very effective BI tool. you can create customized reports without having a very technical background ... It can be easily integrated with several data sources in a simple and consistent way and I find the interface to extract data on demand or send scheduled reports (Report Planner) excellent. good user experience with the drag and drop. . . versatility of the Live API to postgres, sql server and oracle databases. We use Cognos to deliver operational reports to all production units and great and very well presented reports and productivity indicators to senior managers

Minpunten:

It is a very powerful tool but not as easy to understand quickly as other tools on the market for the same price .. The learning curve is broad. The initial configuration is not easy, the dashboard function does not have many options. Installation can also be a complicated issue and may require vendor support

Reviewing IBM Cognos Analytics

Opmerkingen: I have a pretty decent experience with cognos with some of the new inbuilt features but there is always a scope of improvement

Pluspunten:

I love the fact that Cognos Analytics is so flexible as we deal with a lot of reports which needs to be emailed to the higher authorities as and when they run. Cognos has this inbuild feature, where it can also write the reports to the internal file system. This helps us to keep a track of the recipients of the reports.

Minpunten:

The Cognos 10 version was a little laid back on the visualization side as it did not had much interactive visuals available for reporting. But they have overcome it in Cognos 11 version.

Powerful but complicated

Opmerkingen: Implementing the tool is painful but once is running is great.

Being a IBM product it pack quality. great functionalities and features that defeat the competition.

Minpunten:

It's hard to setup. Installation and configuration process is a pain. The space usage for this software is to high. The IBM Windows services is slow on startup and service errors can be very difficult to diagnose due to bad log structure or description.

IBM Cognos 11 Analytics, the easy and reliable BI Tool

Pluspunten:

Reliability, easy of use, complete set of functions, integration with other web tools, security and maintenance

Minpunten:

The price is not for small companies, the implementation of the whole functions always requires an expert

I like the ability to create reports its has many functions ( Explore, Analysis, Report Studio, Event Studio).

Minpunten:

I dislikes its. Because of so hard of setting page or design report page when it set wide and height.

Worst of all modern BI tools I've worked with

Opmerkingen: Cognos is years behind the modern BI tools like Qlikview/Sense, Power BI and Tableau. I will hopefully never again have to work with Cognos products in the future.

Pluspunten:

Customizeable, if you know how to code. Probably could be a good tool if you have a team of trained Cognos experts that deliver all the reports and dashboards in very old-school Enterprise way.

Minpunten:

Very very bad UI, unintuitive, messy and buggy. Very fiddly to get things right when creating reports.

One of the best time keeping software in the market

Pluspunten:

Most employers love this software because it is easy for employees to use. Since it is fast, efficient, simple, and does its job well. You can also run great reports in it too.

Minpunten:

Sometimes the software has a glitch here and there, but every product does. I am sure there are less expensive products on the market, but why use something that isn't tried and true?

Intuitive BI and Reporting Software

We have used IBM Cognos to create customer insights and patterns to help in our marketing and targeting campaigns. The dashboards and graphs have multiple styles and formats and can be scheduled to be generated at specific times

Minpunten:

Larger reports tend to be slow to generate from the report studio. Installation can also be challenging and may require purchase of vendor support

Reporting at its best

Pluspunten:

I love that you can report off any field and get results. There are calculations and graphs and so many tools to create any type of report for any data.

Minpunten:

I struggle with all the information and fields and calculations. I'm old school!!

Expensive but Good

This product will do just about anything you want it to do. It does take more of a skilled employee in order to create things. However, anyone can run things once they are created.

Minpunten:

This product is pricey, especially for a mid range company. It takes a lot of training and setup to get the product going as one would like.

Robust product with more options for customization. SDK should be free

Pluspunten:

Customization and more options to tune performance improvements. Many ways to connect databases like FM. Direct datasource, usage of stored procedure, and usage of database trigger is good.

Minpunten:

SDK has to be bought as separate package, whereas it should be given free.

The flexibility of the product and scalability of the solution.

Enterprise offerings are a bit pricey. For SMBs it can be a difficult conversation to justify the costs.
