The best choice for ambitious 3D Games

Opmerkingen: I really liked using Unreal and prototyping quick ideas. It's a really flexible engine and really powerful. Even the testing stuff look and run great. I wish there was a more open community that helped each other out or introduced new users to advanced knowledge of the engine that you will only earn with time by using it.

Pluspunten:

Unreal Engine has grown over the years and it's now more friendly to single developers, indy movie produces and indy game studios as well. It has a robust toolset that allows you to create 3D games with one of the best engines for realistic looks, yet you can use models that fit your artistic vision, ex: stylized games. If you want an example of how small studios can make a good unreal game, look for Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice and if you want to look for AAA Games that look extremely realistic or movie quality, look at Gears of War 5 or Kingdom Hearts 3. Unreal also has an asset store where you can buy models or tools to help you quickly build or prototype your game and it has a blueprint system that allows you to program your game logic without knowing how to write in C++. The engine also runs in a myriad of platforms including mobile.

Minpunten:

One of the downsides of Unreal is how complex it is when comparing it to Godot or Unity. The community for it, it's very small and a lot of the people who have knowledge on Unreal are tied behind studio contracts and maybe they're not allowed to share or help around in the web much, but when you look at Unity, there's dozens and dozens of websites, youtubers, courses and resources that you could basically build a game with no knowledge, but in Unreal it will take a lot of time and expertise on what you're doing. Also one last thing, you can build 2D games in Unreal, but you're better off using GameMaker or Unity for 2D Games. The community and engine support is just bigger and bettter.

There is absolutely nothing negative about it because we have switched from another software to Unreal after finding absolutely no flaws.

The best for 3D games and real life scenes

Pluspunten:

With UE5 the next generation of games are going to be amazing. The fees are straightforward, the asset market place is great (plus Epic give you free assets each month), the tools are easy to use, there are many guides on YouTube if you're stuck (and a huge community), its easy to make games compatible on many devices, plugins are plentiful, the list goes on really...

Minpunten:

The no code option is great but with each update, some bits get reworked and removed meaning that you'll need to use different blocks to do the same action. This can mess up certain mechanics and make doing some bits difficult (granted it would probably be easier if i learnt C++ better).

Achieving near-perfection in the Unreal Engine

Opmerkingen: In terms of visual fidelity, Unreal Engine is great for game jams. However, when working on commercial games, Unreal Engine projects can get out of hand. There are many reasons why making a new game in Unreal can be overwhelming, frustrating, or even a good idea, but there are also many reasons why making a new game in Unreal can be the best option for your project. The Unreal Engine can be a good tool if your entire team is familiar with it, depending on the type of game you're making.

Pluspunten:

The visuals in Unreal Engine games are stunning, and the cross-platform capabilities are excellent. Technically, it's superior to Unity, but in terms of usability, it's more stable. In terms of updates and bug fixes, Unreal is ahead of Unity, and its pricing is unbeatable.

Minpunten:

The node material editor is the only thing I can think of that I don't like. It's not very user-friendly, and the names of the nodes required to construct a material are unlike anything I've seen in any other DCC. Because of just that one aspect, the learning curve is quite steep.

If you want to build a game and have 0 experience, THIS IS FOR YOU!

Opmerkingen: Fantastic, this is the only program I would recommend for low experience first timers, and even the more experienced, although for those reading this review, if you are more experienced, you probably should go read another review from someone who has been doing this for years. But if you are reading this as a low-experienced person, this is the program.

Pluspunten:

There are so many pro's to using Unreal Engine it's ridiculous, so I am just going to keep it general because I doubt I could even remember all the specifics. Simply put, it actually FEELS like a company that WANTS you to succeed. I came into Unreal Engine with 0 experience and have been able to program a game (it's unfinished) where my character can move, my map is procedural generated, I've got enemies that move/attack, I figured this out from complete scratch, I have never coded anything in my life and I was able to do this with free tutorials (except for one time where I paid $1 to someone's patrion to help with enemy detecting players and stuff like that). Back to what I was saying at the beginning where they actually want you to succeed, at every turn it felt like there was someone there helping me, for instance I needed combat items and pick-up-able items in my game, and I was 100% I was going to have to ALSO learn a program like blender to make those items and import them over, nope, they have a free store IN the engine that allows you to just grab stuff like that, and they are fantastic, not just some crap. They have different numbers of triangles for each item, even the one (I'm blanking on the name) but where the triangles reduce when you are further away. They have thousands of materials for anything you would like, they legitimately want to allow people like me, with 0 experience, to make anything they want, and the do a heck of a job at it.

Minpunten:

There are no cons, there are legitimately no cons. Now take this with a grain of salt because I came into with 0 experience and am probably around 500-1000 hours in now, so there could be cons I could not identify, but I think even someone with experience would agree, because even with the nodes that are designed to make programming a game easier, you can edit with C++ if you are some advanced-game-making-wizard and want to make them customized. I just don't see why you would make a game on any other platform at this point.

It's Unreal!

Opmerkingen: My personal overall experience with Unreal Engine is extremely positive. When I get inspired to make a beautiful 3D scene, I instantly go into Unreal Engine to create amazing lifelike 3D Graphics.

Pluspunten:

By far, the most enjoyable feature in Unreal Engine is the stunning graphics it is able to produce; all with a click of a button! Unreal Engine is by far the most powerful game engine available to the public.

Minpunten:

Of course, with stunning graphics comes cost of performance. However, Unreal Engine manages to keep these hardware requirements rather low in today's standards as it utilizes its feature of streaming assets to improve performance. Unreal Engine's least great feature is the hardware requirements.

Pretty darn good engine. Perfect for 3D

Opmerkingen: I used it for 5 years but it’s a bit uh, big of an engine for me at the moment. I hope to improve my development skills and come back to it in the future.

Pluspunten:

I like how nice it looks. You can create AAA looking games. Also, this engine is quickly becoming an industry standard.

Minpunten:

It’s still a bit complex for non-coders and the engine seems better fit for teams if developers rather than a single person in my experience.

The industry standard in 3D gaming, and you can start from basically free

Opmerkingen: Unreal Engine is just the best game engine out there. You can create from little 2D indie games up to Hollywood scale CG. You can start for literally free and there's tons of learning materials and easy to access resources, ready to be used. Also the community (and help) is really huge so you'll rarely get stuck in a project. The only downside I can find are the system requirements, it requires really beefy high-end hardware even for the smallest projects, otherwise it will crawl.

Pluspunten:

Zero cost for small beginner projects. Very complete yet Intuitive interface. Not-so-steep learning curve. Code-free programming that is very accessible and powerful. Huge community. High availability of resources and learning tools.

Minpunten:

Needs powerful hardware, even for small projects.

A review of Unreal Engine

Opmerkingen: My overall experience with Unreal Engine was pretty positive as it is a powerful tool for any Developer.

Pluspunten:

What I like the most about Unreal Engine is how powerful it is and the flexibility it provides for the developer.

Minpunten:

One problem I have with Unreal Engine is that there is a steep learning curve.

The graphics of the games made with the engine is unreal. The software pricing is reasonable to invite new gamers as well as retain current gamers.

Minpunten:

The system requirements to perfectly run this software can be a big problem for most people as the size of the software is massively huge as well.

The latest upgrade to TwinMotion and the Unreal Engine is second to none.

Opmerkingen: This is a great suite of design software that allows you to make impressive photorealistic renders and environments. The latest release improves upon the lighting effects which add great depth to your designs. I am impressed.

Pluspunten:

The end result from the render engine is second to none. Many times I have had my renders mistaken as real images. This is a great piece of software.

Minpunten:

Slight learning curve but once you get a workflow this suite of software is remarkable.

Unreal is the engine of choice for advanced 3D projects

Opmerkingen: I recommend Unreal for any Studio that doesn't need an in-house engine and wants to work on 3D heavy projects. This engine will allow any Studio with the right resources, to create a project that could easily compete with bigger Studios. It's easily accessible, cheap, powerful and has a great history and support to it.

Pluspunten:

Being based on an existing game, and evolving since the earlier ages of 3D games, Unreal3D is the perfect match for any Studio which doesn't want to build, maintain and optimize its own in-house Engine. The expertise of Epic, the number of users worldwide and the multiple layers of development allows many different users to access and create assets/features easily. The Engine comes up with a great online tutorial and basic project within the engine, allowing anyone to play around and create prototypes easily. Blueprints are also a great way for anyone to experiment with behaviors and mechanics, without any code knowledge. When getting deeper into the production of a project, the possibility to turn those blueprints into actual C++ code, offers even more optimization possibilities to the developers. The access to a lot of plugins, assets and blueprints on the Unreal Marketplace is also a great way to share knowledge and allow projects to move forward.

Minpunten:

The Engine is heavy and demands a powerful computer. This is a mandatory investment if you want to push your project further. The Engine is also very fat and the bigger it grows, the more space it will take on your versioning software. Unreal3D also offers limited compatibility with git (our version software of choice).

A game engine for graphics nerd !!!

Opmerkingen: It is brolly. I am currently using it for a 3d puzzle game. I am really excited about it !!!

Pluspunten:

I will list it's pros in following points:- 1.) Super excellent graphics:- the game engine is meant for this. And even better, this will become more better in the future 2.) Free of cost:- the game engine costs nothing ! You will only be charged when your annual earning are more than $1 million dollars ( I am even ready to pay more to face that day) 3.) Huge team:- unreal engine has many employees to care care of the engine. This factor is important during bug hunting 4.) Tested platform:- unreal engine has been used for many AAA games and nowadays even studios are also using it for movie production

Minpunten:

1.) C++ :- this is quite a controversial point. For some it is a boon but for some it is a backdrop. And in my opinion other languages should also be offered for game development 2.) Blueprint is still not mature. It requires much more work 3.) Game engine is very heavy. Requires powerful computer to run 4.) Compilation takes a good amount of time 5.) UI could have been better

Easy to use, with wide variety of games already in the engine; needs better community support

Opmerkingen: I've enjoyed it, and have created some fun 3d environments. As with most EG resources, its dependable and gets the job done.

Pluspunten:

There's already a wide array of games available to run in the engine. Since its so widely deployed already, the array of available games for sampling and ideas are endless. I also like how they constantly provide updates and patches for bug fixes, sometimes multiple times a week. There really isnt any way to beat the pricing, unless a platform is going to pay you to use their engine ( LOL)

Minpunten:

The editor is more complicated that Photoshop's tool set, if that's possible! So the learning curve is HUGE! There's a ton of options that are not relevant to current projects, so the tool set should be dynamic rather than static. For an engine this widely used, it's baffling that there is not a better online community for support, ideas, and think-tanking. If Epic can't develop their own, they should fund some 3rd party projects. Wish they had better 2d tools.

Best Game Engine Ever

Opmerkingen: It's best game engine ever, you can do everything. Dont think about it just an game engine. Its more than it. I really really do love it.

Pluspunten:

First of all its free. You need to pay after a million dollars. Can you believe it?Secondly its UI/UX. You can understand everything just by looking at them. They've designed the game engine like you wanted. Even from simplest thing to most complicated thing. You just need a couple of clicks.Third, coding and no-coding option. You can make games with no code.

Minpunten:

Nothing, i really really do like everything about that.

Unreal

unreal is free for everybody. If you wanna work int the game industry or learn to do code C+++ this is the way to go. Alots of video games that are published by triple-A studio use Unreal Engine.

Minpunten:

It could be overwhelming at first cause Unreal engine has a lot to offer to anyone wanting to build a level, import animation, etc.

unreal Engine - An advanced game engine

Opmerkingen: The overall experience is 95% positive when considering the Unreal engine and according to my experience with unreal engine this is one of the best platform for AAA game development.

Pluspunten:

The render pipeline is the best feature in the Unreal engine. Unreal engine can provide high quality, extreme realistic and advance graphics towards any game. Unreal engine also can be used in architectural visualizations. Another benefit is unreal engine has a feature called the blueprints which can be very helpful to game developers who don't have any programming knowledge.

Minpunten:

Not like other game engines, unreal engine requires high processing power and memory. When it comes to rendering or executing a build the computer cannot be used for another process. Also user interfaces are little bit confusing.

Game testing and virtualizatiob

Opmerkingen: The experience with unreal engine was amazing and it has been more than one and half year me using and I never had any problems except for some glitches. But the software itself is flawless as for my personal experience with time I understood many things about graphic design too it did help me alot as a newbie at first

Pluspunten:

The software keeps getting updates to fix the the overall software as clean as possible and easy to use even for a newbie the graphics this thing provides is amazing the only thing is to enjoy all the fun you have to have a powerful system to handle the specs

Minpunten:

The least thing I liked about the software was the price which could be little low but I understand there is a whole team behind working for hours making it better to use so it does make it up

The one that create Fortnite

Opmerkingen: Great opportunity to use the same engine that created graphically beautiful games and very popular games.

Pluspunten:

It made arguably the most popular game and is able to constantly feed an audience with new features. You can get started for free; however, you definitely need to be trained in the UI. If you have the time and resources, definitely go for it.

Minpunten:

Why did Epic Games have to pick a fight with Apple. Apple is punishing all users of Unreal Engine from updating their games so that's not cool but hopefully it'll blow over and we can update the games.

Unreal engine helped us to build High quality games

Opmerkingen: I am using unreal engine for almost a year, initially it was quite difficult to learn the software but when i come to know about it's features i was impressed, no need to go to different programs. this software is an all in one package for us. it is really powerful software for studios and game developers

One of the best features of unreal engine was the graphics of unreal engine is very impressive we can build games we can create cinematics and animations, it's a complete package for gaming studios. we can do modeling landscape, create a complete game using unreal engine.

Minpunten:

One drawback i faced lots of time is that the lagging issue, when we add assets to the unreal engine project it lags a lot. and also it crashes several times and also the interface is quite hard to use but still those who know how to work on unreal engine they can build some amazing masterpieces.

UNREAL ENGINE "A GOOD COMPETITION FOR 3D REPRESENTATION SOFTWARES"

Opmerkingen: I have used this software the last 6 months, and every time I like it more, lately i use it for 3d virtual tours for architecture projects and i love it

Pluspunten:

Unreal is a very good rendering software, which is very easy to learn and use, one of its main characteristics is that it gives you very good results for the time you work, many things such as lighting, reflections, etc. are very simple with this software and you don't need to watch tutorials for a long time. The interface is very good and you can start with a default template which will help you a lot depending on the project you want to carry out. Being a software focused on realistic representation for video games, it also works very well on hyper-realistic representation for architecture. you can create renders and 3d animations with very good lighting and rendering of textures.

Minpunten:

One of its problems is that there is not a large community of people who use this software on the internet, so it is very difficult to find references and examples on the internet, besides that it is a very heavy program and requires a computer with good specifications to run perfectly.

True AAA engine

Pluspunten:

There are so many things I could say about this software I am not sure where to start. Lets start with the wide range of skill levels that Unreal Engine can accomodate. Everything from beginners to programming with Blueprints to hardcore programmers who want to optimise everything and never leave Visual Studio, I am somewhere in between. The tools within Unreal Engine such as for creating terrain and mature and well rounded allowing to create a nice level with relative ease. Definitely ahead of other engines in this regard.

Minpunten:

One con that comes to mind is to do with Unreal Engine pricing. They take a percentage of your income which in my opinion is ridiculous. However, I understand as they should definitely be compensated if you create a game which makes money.

A game changer!

Pluspunten:

I have used Unreal Engine 4 on a few projects already and I can say for sure that it has saved us time over other engines by it's great workflow and there is so much documentation available to help you out whenever you encounter any issues.

Minpunten:

I don't have much that I don't like about Unreal Engine 4, but my complaint would be that sometimes Blueprints is almost too robust and it's difficult to figure out the most optimal way to script something.

The perfect software for game developing.

Opmerkingen: As someone who does not know how to code (programming), i loved unreal. Unreal uses the blueprint concept for coding, which makes it so much easier to code. But i love to set up an environment in video games, so unreal is perfect for that.

Pluspunten:

Unreal engine is the best software you can get for game developing. It is super user friendly, pretty easy to learn the basic, it looks good (good UI design) and the community is super active. It's super easy to find any documentation or to find answers to your questions on forums. Since Unreal Engine is free to use, everybody is using it, so everybody post questions, articles or answers. Also, very powerful software, we're talking about the most used game engine on the market (gears of war, batman arkham, XCOM, fortnite). And big thumbs up to Epic games for making it free to use for anyone.

Minpunten:

You need to have a pretty good computer to be able to use it. I mean it's obvious, but be ready to have some lags.

An excellent too for advanced game development

Unreal Engine is a an extraordinary tool for creating quality high graphics games. A great advantage that the software has is that the final products works on any type of device. The graphics and light quality of the software is more realistic and advanced compared to any other game engine. The software has its own store where they provide many different assets for your game. For the beginner developers Unreal Engine provides Blueprints, with which the user can create games without any knowledge of programming language.

The only disadvantage of the software is that it requires a powerful computer and your final product will also have high requirements.
