An easy-to-use platform for creating simple websites
Opmerkingen: For your online store, Prestashop is analogous to a cargo ship. If you run a small business, you'll appreciate the ease of use and robust features that Prestashop offers for your online store.
Pluspunten:
The front-end experience, including the interface, search functionality, and purchasing wizard, must be intuitive and simple to use. Managing products in the administration area is similarly simple and straightforward. The process is simple enough for a person with no technological background to manage.
Minpunten:
Theme support is weak when compared to rivals like Shopify and woocommerce. Further, it employs a PHP-based server, making it more vulnerable to malicious software.
Presta Shop Is Great for Small Businesses
Opmerkingen: Overall I would say Prestashop could definitely work well for a beginner that wanted to build different websites without all the plugins that come with WP Woocommerce, or the basic look of Wix and Weebly. Its a sweet spot and gives beginners and advanced users the ability to create amazing online stores. SEO was not the easiest to do though, and if you go too deep without propper knowledge you really can mess up the whole thing. Id suggest using it only based on your skill level. But from my experience, this is one of my favoirte ecommerce platforms.
Pluspunten:
I used this to build my online Survival/Prepper store. I wanted something that had more capabilities then WooCommerce and a different interface. And I was able to completely customize my store with all of the things I wanted to add without the drag and drop thing that other websites had.
Minpunten:
It wasn't exactly user friendly and I liked what I could potentially do with the website. But I had to youtube and google and research how to do some of the more advanced things I wanted to do. There was one point when I changed a piece of code and the whole website went white. It took me 5 days of googling how to restore an older version on a server to get it back up.
good since the fork but it has changed its name; this is the review of the one called prestashop
Opmerkingen:
Last in a series of failed attempts to get a 21st century ecommerce site. I have a 20th century one but hoped for better. Two problems with the open source ones are
(a) Over-large companies funded by venture capital or just ambition, that half-finish a neat project and then sell it half finished and try to cover-up the mistake by selling modules for the most obvious basic things like checkout and shipping. This applies to Drupal Commerce, a lot, to some of the various Wordpress carts, and to Prestashop.
(b) Mission creep by which an app that installs onto shared hosting suddenly becomes too large to run on that host. This applies to Drupal projects and probably to Prestashop a bit too.
So: the experience is the same as with Drupal Commerce and bits of wordpress stuff. i am a lot happier now I am on a forked version of prestashop.
Oh talking of "fork" and "open source", this is a DIY project with some free help maybe on message boards and with free installation from software installers on most hosting, but mainly paid in hours rather than pounds. When i spend money it was on ill-judged attempts to find a one page checkout module that turned-out not to cope with a particular server or to solve the specific problems of the default checkout.
Pluspunten:
Separate templates, codes, and html Small and purpose-specific enough to run on some shared hosting (with a cache). Small and purpose-specific enough to teach yourself you to use it (I hoped, although wrongly because of the bugs.) Neat enough to run in its pure form without the need to buy lots of modules in case they help (I hoped, wrongly because of the bugs)
Minpunten:
Dozens of employees funded by selling modules. Next to nobody fixing bugs because it's not in their interest. Look for a solution to an awkwardness with the default one page checkout, for example, and you see threads years-old with unresolved problems, even when the solution is just a line or two of code. For example the code that shows something of the payment methods before a user has selected a country to confirm the payment amount. Or one I discovered by mistake - if you manage to hack your way through the order form, simplifying it and forcing it to use guest checkout - Prestashop refuses to accept a repeat customer with the same email address. It requires each customer to open an account. The renamed forked version, I discovered while doing this, is fixed; it allows customers to remain "guest" and for two to have the same email address. Changes to the software seem to come down from the top of the hierarchy rather than up from the needs of users. For example version 1.7 has less free built-in features than version 1.6 and a different system for running themes - symphony instead of smarty. As though any shopkeeper wants to know this, or pay module developers to know it so that they can offer cheap or free modules.
Free e-commerce to start with most features
Opmerkingen: PrestaShop is the right tool if you have a plan to expand into e-commerce. The platform is widely use in some countries like France (started here) and Italy, many agencies offer on-line shops based on PrestaShop. It fits all basic needs and if you have some IT experience, than you can build your own shop totally free. If you are serious about e-commerce then sooner or later you will buy modules (plugins for PrestaShop) and later you need to find a php developer to adapt the site to your needs. Most shops find solutions with existing plugins that are sold on PrestaShop's site or many other portals.
Pluspunten:
You can install a shop with one click on Softaculous, now very common on shared hosting. The requirements for the hosting are basic, any hosting suitable for WordPress will work fine with PrestaShop, so 5 $/€ a month is more than enough. There is an active community in many languages, normally you get free help here for basic issues and bug reports. A template for the graphic is recommended, the site will look much better with a little investment. Make sure you get support from the developper. There are free modules/plugins for most payment systems and often you can get a free module from your courier. Connecting payments and couriers is quite simple because they are well documented and supported. Buy modules from the official site because you are confident about the quality of the software and support, normally I pay extra to extend support from the developer for the first year. module all needs
Minpunten:
If you can't config your e-mail and are not interested in software, avoid trying your free e-commerce. There is little support from the headquarter, so you spend nights to understand what to do. Any site/developer can sell modules for PrestaShop, so there is no quality control.

A Beautiful User Interface Shopping Cart Software
Opmerkingen: Its a great shopping cart software , it only needs the developer of the shopping cart to make the admin dashboard to be easy to use, then all countries needs to be added by default in their future versions. As for the front end design, its perfect! then
Pluspunten:
I so much love its themes because they're so elegant and responsive on all devices. Prestashop also has some nice plugins which are free then i love its product image zoom feature. Then cross-selling products on Prestashop is excellent. Ability to install different languages at the admin dashboard so that the website visitors can translate the store in their respective languages is great.
Minpunten:
Prestashop themes are expensive and their customer support doesn't respond on time which isn't good enough. All countries aren't installed in the localization section of the admin dashboard which will hinder those buyers from the excluded countries from completing their transactions. Whenever you have issues at the admin dashboard section, you must have a basic PHP knowledge to fix it

Nice ecommerce solution, but lacks some punch
Opmerkingen: I liked Prestashop when I used it, but somehow I missed the extra punch I could have when developing with others platforms. I think it's a good tool, but I prefer others
Pluspunten:
It's focused on ecommerce, you can do all kind of projects from business to business to retail with ease, and has a great spanish community
Minpunten:
Creating content is not a pleasant experience, and extending functionality to it could be complex

Best E-Commerce platform for small and medium size stores
Opmerkingen: I have deployed more than 10 instances for our customers. Installation was supper is and can be done within 15 minutes. Prestashop is very good product for small and medium level stores. I'm not recommending Prestashop for larger scale stores.
Pluspunten:
+ Installation is super easy. + Open source + Good documentation and good community support. +Easy to customize + Supported by all major hosting providers. + Tons of themes/plugins developed by community
Minpunten:
+Paid addons are very expensive. +Support service is not available from the vendor. +NOT scalable ,since not suitable for larger scale stores +Poor performance

Solid e-commerce solution
Opmerkingen: It's a great product, however you do need a developer team to have it fully set up. If you have a dev team, this is the best option since you can have pretty much unlimited customization options.
Pluspunten:
Prestashop is a wonderful solution for creating a fully personalized e-commerce website. I also has a wide range of add-ons to complement what you're looking for. This add ons include solutions for gateways for payments, marketing, and design/display.
Minpunten:
Add-ons can be a bit expensive. Also the learning curve for the admin users can be pretty steep.
Eerder overwogen alternatieven:
Easy to setup your own online store
Pluspunten:
-Very user friendly -Easy to install locally for testing purpose -already creates a backend tool for management the store and creates its own mail server to aller any purchase or error that client may have -User control that allows you to set the type of permission the user will have when login on backend -the online plugins store is very complete with fair prices -easy to install and remove module
Minpunten:
-when showing a error is required to be tech savvy to resolve it other wise the page will be down -you need to know a little of php in order to fix some error
Ideal for companies of any size that want to venture into ecommerce
Opmerkingen: I started using Prestashop as a Joomla or Wordpress plugin and it was a turning point in starting my ecommerce business. It helped me boost my sales and grow my business.
Pluspunten:
Prestashop is easy to use, it does not require great knowledge to install. You can start with free templates and as a basic user you have great options. For users with more knowledge in Web development, it is a good starting point to avoid starting from 0.It can be customized a lot and the functions it provides are one of the most complete.
Minpunten:
The free templates are identical for the most part.
Very top and black Prestashop
Opmerkingen: my experience in Prestashop very frequent in the day to day
Pluspunten:
Cool Prestashop very fun funny very creative
Minpunten:
Prestashop for not being the only figure very fun funny very active
start creating pages with PrestaShop
Opmerkingen: Being a software with several multi-options, it was easy for me to start with my website, in addition to starting a small online business, with a little basic knowledge and now I have more knowledge regarding its use.
Pluspunten:
In addition to the fact that its cost is low, it has multiple languages, this is for people who use it and speak different languages, it is very easy to use, in addition to having a high level of customization.
Minpunten:
As everything has a bad point for those people who do not have prior knowledge, it may be difficult for them to use, in addition to the fact that it has few varieties of templates
A Robust E-commerce Solution
Pluspunten:
Prestashop is a fantastic platform for small businesses to launch their online stores. It has a user-friendly interface and a ton of customization options that make it easy to create a unique look for your store. With its scalability, Prestashop is a great investment for businesses looking to grow.
Minpunten:
I am yet to find any negatives in this tool.
Prestashop - Don't use for lots of products
Opmerkingen:
I have three stores now with Prestashop, which I have been using for over six years. I would say that the older versions worked perfectly well and I had no problems. I would have given 5 stars in all areas. (I am talking version 1.6.0.9 or thereabouts)
Unwittingly "upgrading" to the latest versions, I'm now on 1.6.0.14, has rendered Prestashop almost unworkable. It only works now for me thanks to the brilliant paid add-on Store Manager.
My two sites with fewer products - 20 and 1200 respectively, work fine still.
My main site, which is my main source of income has 4,500 products. I cannot edit or save products (which is where Store Manager comes in). The search indexing does not work. CSV product import will not work. Database backups always time out. There are frequent errors with Payment gateways. Every recommended update usually causes new problems.
All this despite the fact that I am using the default template and have made no code changes.
Support is absolutely zero. My problems have been well discussed on the forums for over two years and are common. The programmers do nothing. I am not a programmer. I have spent over $2000 on programming help over the last two years just to keep my site running - and Prestashop is supposed to be "Open Source" and free.
I would highly recommend Prestashop if you have few products, but I would say that if you start to go over 2000 then in my experience it simply does not work. The programmers are too busy making add ons which they make money on, than getting the basic shell to work.
Transferring to another cart now would be a nightmare, largely because of the huge number of product photos, I think about 30,000 now.
Pluspunten:
Brilliant for a small number of products, say up to 2000 - 2,500. Runs like clockwork
Minpunten:
If you have a large number of products, don't waste your time or money, Prestashop does not work, unless you can install the old version 1.6.0.9 (download links are still available)
Prestashop
Pluspunten:
Very easy to use and has many customization templates
Minpunten:
Too many paid themes and modules, impossible to integrate certain software
Good to start a small business
Opmerkingen: It was great to start, but if you business grows (more references) you can have severe issues
Pluspunten:
Prestashop is nice to start a small business, it's easy to use and can connect to different plugins
Minpunten:
It's works with plugin : like all solutions that works with plugin their can be dangerous side effects when you add a plugin to your website, and it can create severe performance issues

In my opinion the best open source platform for online stores
Pluspunten:
Easy to configure, easy to update ( one click update ), easy to install new modules and themes and builders. One of the most versatile platforms for physical and virtual goods. I have custom made for customers shops with upwards of 1 million products, imported from dropshipping suppliers. It is very easy to manage, tons of free and premium modules and upgrades. A solid infrastructure to rely on and different profiles with permission for employs. Very Reliable for large amounts of traffic.
Minpunten:
Not that great for backups. Modules and themes don't work from 1.5 to 1.6 to 1.7, have to reorder or to download new version ( incompatible by design of the code ). Big community but not that active. Translations needs an upgrade, being made by contributions from authors.
Prestashop your simple open source ecommerce software
Opmerkingen: We have worked with Prestashop for clients. It is quite simple to get up and running but the running costs escalate as the project gets bigger. Hosting is a big requirement and you will need plugins for integration as integration can sometimes be a problem when you need to integrate with other software.
Pluspunten:
Prestashop is free opensource software and a great platform to start off your website. With minimal knowledge you can be up and running. It is not heavily reliant on plugins so you can get your website going without having to purchase plugins. The admin panel is also very user friendly and our clients love it.
Minpunten:
Prestashop is not a small platform. You need a lot of hosting space. Talk to an experienced hosting provider to make sure you have the correct hosting package.
Eerder overwogen alternatieven:
A medium level platform, hard to scale in an enterprise environment.
Opmerkingen: I'm working as a Team Leader in a PrestaShop gold partner Agency, I worked on many PrestaShop projects with success, I spent too many time fixing issues, especially in high traffic projects.
Pluspunten:
Costs of course, huge marketplace with lots of themes and modules.
Minpunten:
Too many versions/releases make this platform often instable, Keep everything updated and stable (struggling with conflicts and incompatibilities) is a great effort for the team.
Good option for your e-commerce
Pluspunten:
-Easy to deploy. - Big community. -Great plugins.
Minpunten:
-Some limitation for bigger e-commerce .

Great software to use for your online store
Pluspunten:
It is one of the most undervalued softwares in the online space. You can really build your store in just a couple of minutes, with tons of modules and themes also from third parties you can have any type of store, either physical or virtual goods. With over 1 million websites constructed with this platform is a great asset to build with.
Minpunten:
The difference from major versions is amazing, you have to carefully upgrade on a test website, to not ruin your website. It is best done by a professional
Great Open-Source Product
Pluspunten:
We are using Prestashop for creating the most of our E-commerce products. Open-Source Platform and existing market with plugins - are the main advantages to use Prestashop for small-middle sized projects.
Minpunten:
After updating the version of Prestashop, some of the plugins have to be recorded because the system is alerting us that there are some errors in platform update. In case you have a lot of project on Prestashop at the same time, it consumes quite a lot of time.
Working with PrestaShop as a developer and as an e-tailor
Opmerkingen: We like working with PrestaShop, from both ways we are working with the software. So as well from a developer’s vision as from an e-tailor point of view.
Pluspunten:
As an e-tailor we like the flexibility of PrestaShop as an CMS, the large community who work with the software and the way you can make use of the software. As a developer and PrestaShop Partner we like the diversity of the product and the way we can build converting web shops for our customers.
Minpunten:
The one thing we like the least is the assistance we get from PrestaShop themselves. Luckily the community is very active, and this solves most of our problems, but PrestaShop should have a more hands-on mentality.
Decent Online Store Option, But Has Drawbacks
Opmerkingen: I've got a ton of experience with running and configuring Magento, but I wanted to try PrestaShop simply to use something different on my own business storefront to expand my own knowledge, not to mention that Magento needs more power than PrestaShop. Although PS is easy enough to setup and get running, it lacks a few features which I would consider "standard" by today's terms, not to mention that there is also a serious lack of free/opens source plug-ins available for it like Magento has, which includes things like themes. Overall, the store does its job and works well once all the modules are in place, but In the grand scheme, I would consider PrestaShop as a stepping stone to something bigger and better like Magento or more.
Pluspunten:
Prestashop is for the large part, free to use, and pretty easy to setup and maintain. Most website hosting companies have a single-click installer for it, making getting started easy. Creating categories, products and advanced products is all very easy with very nice menus and layouts, and the default theme is surprisingly useful. Prestashop also comes with many of today's standard features built-in.
Minpunten:
The cost of the add-on modules for PrestaShop is ridiculous, and so is the platform's reliance on those modules. There is no way to do anything except free or basic flat-rate shipping unless you spend considerable monies on buying realtime rates modules for EACH shipper, or subscribing to a third-party app that combines and does the checking in a single package, which is costly. Accessing anything except the software's basic features can be incredibly clumsy as well.
